Won jackpot at Treasure Island - Am I a dick?

I was casino bouncing last night with a few friends who I as showing around the strip. Basically, we started at the Wynn and went into almost every casino until we got to the Cosmo. I threw a few hundred into one of those big electronic wheels (i think they have the worst odds in the casino) and hit one of those 50 spots for a total of 1745.00. At any casino like the Wynn or cosmo, I am pretty sure you print out your winning slip and then just cash it out through the machine. However, this is Treasure Island and so 1745 is a "jackpot" that requires hand pay.

So right off the bat, the thrill of winning starts wearing off as now I have to wait for someone to come over. 5 minutes later someone comes over. It was this cranky ass chick who obviously hated her job. She asks for my ID and then says she will be right back. 10 minutes later I check with someone as I cant find her and am told by some other employee that "she is working on it." 10 minutes after that she and some other guy come back with my ID and, the tax form, and the money (btw I think the second guy comes as a sort of way to intimidate you into tipping not only her but him to). I mean why the fuck do you need two people to pay me 1745? When they came back, I actually wasnt there as I went to get a drink as I was sick of waiting. I told a buddy of mine to sit in the seat that hit the jackpot. The dumb idiots actually gave MY id to my friend (thinking he was me) and started to pay him my winnings. lol

So he called me and I came back to the machine. She is now in the process of paying me so I put my hand out. I am not sure if I had my hand too high or what but she pushed it down for some reason. After she finished paying me, she had her hand out. I didnt even look at her and took the money and walked away. My friend started laughing and told me she mouthed "mother fucker" as my back was turned.


I am the best tipper I know and usually do 25 percent but this shit is out of control. Am I dick? Assuming the service was good (I still dont know why they need to fucking hand pay 1745), how much does one tip for "jackpots"?

Exactly. My thought was to give her 20 bucks (even after she was a total bitch) but I think that would have gotten almost the same reaction as not tipping her did.

The reason this amount is a hand pay is that anything over 1200 is considered a "jackpot" and is taxable for non-US players. That tax is taken right off the top right on the spot, so they have to make sure you're an american first so they can pay you in full.

I recently grabbed the cheque at a Chinese smorgasbord(family deal) and messed up the debit machine tip option and said fuck it and just handed the machine back as there was no service except one green tea pot refill. The lovey Chinese hag just took a look and said loudly....no tip?

I was then happy about my mistake and will never be back.

I'm with you man. Just because it is customary to tip certain professions does not mean that you have to if the person does the job poorly or has an ill attitude. I would have probably gone a step further and explained to her why she was getting a tip before I put the money in my pocket.

I would have did the same thing here, Don't give them a dime, I always tip decent but when some bitch has a bad attitude then they get nothing or if they act like you owe them something they get nothing from me, I was at the Isle sat for the Preakness and hit a 200 per 3/10 for 1820 which I played on the bet yourself machine, So I go to the window to cash the ticket and the teller counts out 1800 100 dollar bills then sits there for a minute or so , Now I know he waiting for me to say keep the 20, I have many times tip the tellers but when this fucker sits there like I owe him something fuck him won't give a dime

I would shave off a few bucks for cranky slot attendants, but that has never happened (yet)

I used to tip on tourneys until I read Druff's breakdown on the subject. Once I realized that I'm paying at least 10% juice on the buy in plus they rake 3% for tournament staff and most have a $10 dealer toke I quit. It really is a big ass rip off.

Seriously in that situation, I woulda given her fifty instead of the 200 I normally woulda given her. On a related note, I can beat that story in terms of the waiting. Last year I was in west by God virginia for a work thingy and was killing time at one of the nickel video slots at my hotel's bar (note, this was the embassy suites bar not a casino...max best is $1.85....lol...And it's like that at all of the bar slots and video poker machines in west virginia...unless you go to the casino). Anyhow I hit a $2,000 win, the machine locks up, and the bar manager comes back to the slot room to congratulate me and start the IRS paperwork. She's totally cool and helpful. I'm like so how does this work, is the hotel going to pay me? She laughs and says no, someone from the lottery commission is on their way now. I'm like ok, how long is that gonna take. She just shrugged her shoulders. An hour fucking later a dude finally strolls in to pay me. Here's the kicker, he paid me with a personal check...not joking. I said wtf is this, where's the cash? He said they didn't have enough cash on hand to pay me (dear Lord it's the fucking state lottery commission..how do they not have 2k). Then he said don't worry it's good it will clear and there's a bank branch a couple of blocks away that opens at 8 that you can cash it at. Anyhow, while waiting for an hour I had lost 200 playing the machine next to the locked machine and was outta cash. I was literally trapped there waiting on this dumbass. Thankfully the manager kept checking on me during the wait and getting me beers. I ended up having to go to the atm just so I could tip the manager for helping me out with my 2k slot win.


Check was from some random llcs bank account so first thing in the morning I went to the bank and cashed that fucker.
