not a great episode but i get that they had to kickstart a lot of divergent plot lines and establish some sort of broad tempo. hoping we dont end up a stone skipping across a pond for the rest of the show. could happen.

The first episode of most seasons has been pretty ho hum, so this wasn't surprising.
I've been wondering how the Lannisters are going to compete, considering everyone was against them. And they somehow made the Iron Island guys an elite fighting force. I never read the books, but the show pretty much indicated that these people get their shit pounded in regularly.
This. They went from the Ethiopian Canoe Navy attacking tankers to a fleet of US Navy battleships overnight. Probably a more believable avenue then having one of the families get back with the Lanisters but suspension of belief is definitely required here.

Sansa murdering Jon seems totally reasonable considering Jon's little 'you sound like you admire Cersei' quip, but I think its going to be something where Sansa sees that Jon is heading for ruin and simply fails to stop him, which is a very Littlefinger tactic.
Somehow I also imagine Sansa on the Iron Throne, making a proper fucking mess of things, and Littlefinger slitting her throat then tearing off his face to reveal Arya, claiming revenge for Jon.
But honestly havent we cashed the 'Jon gets fucked' check? It's all over the place that Jon & Sansa do _not_ get on this season but seriously there should be enough to work with here without Sansa going full kinslayer. That said, its all allegory for the War of Roses which had plenty of kinslaying, so who knows..
I also wonder if the 'priceless gift' Greyjoy hands over is going to be some magical trinket (one in particular is featured prominently in the books), or Tyrian.

I still have no idea how Arya fits in to the endgame here. Does she kill Cersei, then Jamie kills her, then Jamie dies...somehow? A "convenient" way to eliminate 3 characters?

I've just always assumed she existed to cull the herd as the show progresses and provide some final act of vengeance in the closing scene.

I kind of hope they just dgaf anymore and just have a giant battle where, at the same time, we see Clegane-bowl, arya sneaky kill someone, arya dies, whoever kills her dies....everyone dies...and now it's just Dany, Tyrion, and Snow riding dragons n burning white walkers.
The preview about a porn and the mob show set in the 70s looked pretty good. Episode 1 was pretty good in my book. more of the same. But a damn fine show. The north remembers scene was good. Then she hooks up with a band of soldiers in the woods. No Middle Ages rape scene?
