Mehmet Hassan was the victim. He is not well known in the tourney scene, but played a lot of live cash in the UK.



Leonie Granger, who is 24 (and 32 years younger than Hassan), was his dinner companion at the Nobu restaurant after a poker session.

This was a setup. Granger had no real romantic interest in the much older Hassan, but instead was setting him up to be attacked at home later.

Six young men burst into Hassan's flat, beat him badly, tied him up, and stole 23,000 British pounds. He suffered major check and neck injuries, and died.

Granger was arrested, as were Nicholas Chandler (age 28) and Kyrrin Jackson (age 27). Four others were arrested but not named.

Poker players have been sitting ducks since the boom and I've never understood why more haven't been targeted over the years. Especially considering they could be holding a 100x more $$ than the numerous store holders who lose their lives to robberies each year.


Maybe because the vermin who'll take somebody's life for a few bucks still have no idea how much money poker players can walk out of a casino with. Or keep at home like in this case.

If she was a known prostitute and the cops see that she was involved, I mean, somebody at that hotel recognized her. If she left with the 2 guys and the cameras saw her with them it's game over. She's the only weak link. If it wasn't for her it would just be blurry images of a couple of thugs on security cameras and the newscaster saying 'have you seen these men?'.
