Bogart's Lounge is a place to consider checking out. I think they have a kids eat free happy hour.

He especially loves hotels, and would enjoy a trip of simply driving all day and staying in a hotel every night. He's also very good in the car, and also in restaurants. There was like a 3-month period in his life where this wasn't the case, but that phase ended a long time ago. Basically he is surprisingly easy to travel with for a 3-year-old, and the fact that he is toilet trained now makes things even easier.

I did not do Maid of the Mist in 2004, because it was way too cold. If the weather is warm enough, I might try it. How wet do you get on that thing? One thing I don't like (and Ben doesn't like either) is getting very wet with cold or lukewarm water.

The Great Lakers are actually interesting to me, being from the west. I saw Lake Michigan briefly when in Chicago once, but never went right up to it. It looks like an ocean, but isn't. When I was just in New Orleans, I drove on that super-long bridge over Lake Pontchartrain, just because it was such a weird experience to drive on a bridge that seemingly goes endlessly over a giant body of water. But I'm assuming that Great Lakes are too cold to put your feet in, even in May, right?

We won't have time to make it to Chicago. I think I'll have 6 days / 5 nights for the whole trip, which isn't very much when you consider two long airline travel days and one long driving day.
Lake Michigan is to cold in August unless you're from the midwest we have lots of blubber to keep us warm.

Druff, you get very wet on Maid of the Mist. Basically like you're outside in pretty heavy rain. But you're wearing a poncho during it.

Obviously, Druff should call Toronto Mayor Rob Ford directly on Radio to lock down his plans on "what's happening" in Toronto during his planned vacation time. I am sure the Mayor himself would give him great ideas.

Hopefully, the numbers in the article are still active:

    Home: 416-233-6934.

This was another listed on a site: 416 751- (Ford) 3673

I know that one of his numbers are active as they tried calling him on one of the local radio stations here and they got his voicemail.

This would be a great radio segment if he got through... Can hear Chico Loco calling Mayor Ford now...

I'd say a lot of the kid stuff for NF is for 10+.

If he's not afraid of heights the sky wheel is cool (and totally covered so doesn't matter how the weather is outside). Also stay at a waterpark hotel they all have small stuff for 3-5 yr olds.

I'm looking for advice on interesting things to see/do in the area. Obviously Niagara Falls is one (80 miles from Toronto, and I was there 10 years ago). But I know very little about what there is to see in Toronto and Detroit, aside from knowing names of surrounding cities in each metro area.

Anything you could suggest would be helpful.

I will be driving between the two, btw. Yes, I realize they're like 230 miles apart.
lol at Detroit. It was a different city when I was there in 1966. Before 10,000 people I raised my hands in victory in the ring and earned the name ''Mouse Man''.

But to go there now you're absolutely nuts.

And if you return alive from going there you had a really lucky day.

i went to Toronto last year for a wedding and took my kids.
didnt find anything overly awesome for kids that you cant find anywhere else. i would avoid the zoo, average place with nothing spectacular worth going to see.

niagra was good. if you go on maid of mist you can stay in the middleish of the boat and i dont think youd get wet. i had my 2 and half year old and he was having the time of his life but i dont think he even looked at the falls, he just thought he got to go on boat in the rain.
your son would probably have more fun at the strip thing they have a pretty good minigolf course, ferris wheel etc, just beware some of the attractions there are terrible, i went in a wax museum one and half of them looked like they were made by high school kids in art class. i bought a single ticket that allowed you to go into 5 or 6 of the attractions.

went to a bluejays game and the district around rogers centre is pretty cool. lots of good bars, but with a kid in tow you probably want to dump him with his mum and go by yourself. great atmosphere especially as bluejays were playing when i was there. loose moose bar ftw. sidenote my brother and i were like gods at loose moose bar after we saw some guy who just got a beer poured that had well over and inch of froth on the top. my bro with his thick aussie accent said "hey mate do you want a spoon for that" to which everyone laughed. we ended up going back nearly every night after kids went to bed and getting blind drunk with the locals. they have rickshaws around that area i even convinced a hot chick driver to let me drive the rickshaw and she get in the back with my brother. i was clearly drunk but to my surprise she said yes, i then proceeded to run up the wrong side of the road with it.

One good thing you wont have to worry about is going to see a playoff Hockey game in either town. U possibly could take in a softball game the way the Tigers Bull Pen is and the way the Bluejays pitch in general. Be something different then u r use to being a Dodger fan you are lucky to see 4 runs a game with that shit hole team.
