Multiple sources are reporting a trade was all but a done deal to send Harbaugh to Cleveland as their new coach for multiple drafts picks but Harbaugh was able to nix the deal. First wtf is San Fran thinking trying to send away the guy who turned around a disaster with Mike Singletary to three straight NFC title games and a trip to SB 47. Is there really that much heat between him and the GM?? Now one has to wonder what Harbaugh must think when the team tries to ship him off for draft picks.
Here in Bay Area, they say Harbaugh and Trent Balke (GM) don't get along.

Harbaugh initiated the discussions, not the other way around. That is stunning for how far apart the two franchises are right now. There must be a MAJOR issue in SF for him to try to pull something like that. I mean it is almost inconceivable how one would want to go from SF to Cleveland. Crazy.

Vegas, Smith did have an outstanding game in the wild card round, Luck and the Colts (and luck) pulling out the win was incredible. I guess I just worded it badly but I actually agree with you, since they traded Smith you can't really say he would have lead them to a SB or not. It's all coulda woulda shoulda, hell they could have kept Smith and gone 2-14 for all we know. The NFL doesn't really have allowances for alternate realities.
49s roster is loaded. IMO you could plug in just about anyone and they are a lock for 11 wins.

I am not really a fan of Kaepernick's, but he played well enough to win that Super Bowl. They lost that game by making terrible play calls on the last four downs of the game.
The only time I remember it happening is Tampa Bay giving 2 first round picks 2 second round picks, and $8M to get Jon Gruden.
Technically coaches have the same transferable contracts as players. They just very rarely get traded.

It is absolutely true, the 49ers are trying to do damage control. I mean their head coach just tried to orchestrate his way out of town, to coach the BROWNS.

In one playoff game, throwing to guys named Bowe, McCluster, and Davis, Smith threw for 378 yards 4 TDs and 0 INTs.
In three games, throwing to guys named Crabtree, Davis, and Bolden, Kaep threw for 576 yards 3 TDs and 3 INTs.
8 more quarters and 3 options who are all better than Alex Smith's #1 option, couldn't even throw as many TD passes as Smith did.
