    The internet plays pokemon

Found this pretty funny to watch. It's been going on for 4 days so far, they've gotten about 30% of the way through the game and it's creating meme's left and right. Average viewers at any given time is roughly 40k people.

At first I thought this was just another of thousands of "let's play" live streams. But this really is remarkable. All those people are inputting commands through the chat window. You would think that would result in the character aimlessly wandering, but they seem to be cooperating somewhat.

EDIT: nevermind, apparently they've been stuck on the same stage for 11 hours lol

I was 12 when Pokemon Red and Blue came out. I played the shit out of that game and am not the least bit ashamed to admit it.

    I'm 28 now btw.

Pokemon is extremely popular among college aged Americans and has been for some time. There's a refractory period between the ages of 14-19 or so when everyone feels too cool to play kids games (not that it really is one), after which the craze begins anew.

I have no problem calling myself a nerd. I like poker and video games and post on a message board. That being said I do not like pokeman but I have noticed a lot of young people do. And not the ones you would think of.

Given the work I do I've worked with lots of different types of people. One group I've been working more with in the past two years has been young offenders. I remember going to one of our facilities a few years back and installing a snes emulator along with a few dozen great roms for the guys to play. I thought for sure they'd take to games like FF6 or Chronotrigger. But no... the one consistent game they kept playing was pokeman... Come to think of it no idea how they got the game on there as I didn't install it (no internet access)

So ya point is nerds don't play pokerman... young psychopaths do

There is no Pokemon games for the SNES. Cool anecdotal evidence though bruh.

Never got into the whole Pokemon thing. I do remember how popular the cards got though. I remember kids carrying around binders full of those things lol.

I never got into the cards or the awful TV show, just the game. It was the first RPG I ever played, as I somehow missed out on all the great ones from the NES/SNES era (as well as FF7!). Shortly thereafter I got caught up on Final Fantasy, Chronotrigger, et al.

    FF7 was a spectacular game.

Though it hasn't aged well, I still consider it my all-time favorite game. Every few years I'll download the PC version and load it up with texture mods.

LOL perhaps it was the Gameboy emulator (which would explain me not installing the rom). I swear I thought they were playing it in colour though...

There was also this insane version of link to the past that was so brutal it wasn;t fun to play.

It is now averaging about 100k viewers at a time.

It got so difficult managing all the commands being input he's established an "anarchy" and "democracy" system where the chat can vote on how the commands are input.

Finally clicked the link to see what this was all about. All that's happening is they are clicking the start button over and over.
