He was the New Orleans mayor during Hurricane Katrina.
Always hated this corrupt POS.
He repeatedly rejected federal and state help leading up to Katrina, and then had the nerve to bitch about the "slow federal and state response" to the disaster. Nagin was also infamous for leaving hundreds of school buses parked and unused for the city's evacuation, until the flood waters came and rendered them unusable. In an interview, he said this:
I need 500 buses, man. One of the briefings we had they were talking about getting, you know, public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people out of here.
I’m like – you’ve got to be kidding me. This is a natural disaster. Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get their asses moving to New Orleans
Anyway, rumors ran for years that he was corrupt. Turned out he was.
Among other things, he accepted (at least) $200,000 in bribes during his term as mayor, as well as got his two sons $50,000 in free granite for their business, in exchange for favorable treatment for a local business.
Glad to see this guy is going to jail where he belongs.
