Private safety deposit box facility in Vegas robbed -- I almost used this place

    http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/17517...t-box-business

You can't drive around the streets of Vegas without seeing billboard ads for this place.

It prided itself upon being the safety deposit box for the very private person. You didn't have to show them ID, and they don't want your name or address. You access your box through a James Bond-like iris scan.

Keep in mind that regular safety deposit boxes -- even ones at casinos -- require both ID and paperwork that gets filed with the federal government. For example, if today the government wanted to see the contents of my various safety deposit boxes, they could get a warrant and drill them open before I'd even know about it.

This place obviously won't let that happen, as none of your personal info is kept on file or reported to the government. Also, security appears to be better, as nobody can steal your key and impersonate you, as they can with real safety deposit boxes.

    Sounds cool, right?

For a brief time, I considered opening a box with these people. Then I came to my senses.

I thought to myself, "What if the owner here is shady? What if he decides one day to close down, raid everyone's boxes, and flee to South America?"

I also wondered just how good their security really was. Could someone rob the place? Could the owner even set up a fake robbery, where he splits the proceeds with those involved? I decided I was better off not trusting my cash to such a shady operation.

However, lots of people did trust them, including many poker players who feared the IRS busting into their traditional boxes, and finding out how much they really made in poker.

Today many of those people are sorry, as about half of the boxes were drilled open during this robbery, and the victims have zero chance at getting the stuff back unless the perpetrators can be caught before the money is spent or hidden.

All of those "clever" guys hiding assets from their wives must feel really stupid right about now.

Why cant people see that when something appears to good to be true that it probably is? Trying to be shady and mischevious almost never works out.

How could the owners of the boxes even make any claims on the stolen merchandise? If you had $10K in box 14b and it was stolen, the store doesnt even have a record of YOU being the owner of box 14b! For all they know, the thieves actually owned the boxes......
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

The way those cocksuckers in DC have been behaving lately, it would not surprise me to learn that it was actually a covert operation by our thieving government that knocked this place over.

LAS VEGAS - Almost a week after a brazen robbery, Metro Police are still looking for victims in an unusual case.

On April 14, three masked men walked into 24/7 Private Vaults on Sunset Road near Pecos Road, restrained the employee, opened safe deposit boxes and stole the valuables inside. Metro is struggling to find leads because of the unique nature of 24/7 Private Vaults.

"Due to the business model, allowing people to use the facility and remain anonymous, there's a lack of records that help us to readily identify victims that use the facility," said Metro Police Lt. Ron Fox.

Metro is asking potential victims to come forward. The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect #1 – An unknown race male, 30-35 years of age, 5'10" to 6' tall, weighing approximately 155 pounds with a thin build. The suspect's clothing was described as navy blue camouflaged shirt and pants, possibly a one-piece jumpsuit, and black shoes. He was last seen wearing a black ski mask, tan gloves and sunglasses.

Suspect #2 – A white male in his mid-20's, 5'7" tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds with a thin build, and had big blue eyes. This suspect's clothing is also described as navy blue camouflaged shirt and pants, possibly a one-piece jumpsuit, and black shoes. He was last seen wearing a black ski mask and tan gloves.

Suspect #3 – An unknown race male, 5'10" to 6' tall with a thin build. His clothing is also described as navy blue camouflaged shirt and pants, possibly a one-piece jumpsuit, and black shoes. The suspect was last seen wearing a black ski mask, tan gloves and sunglasses.

They fled in an unknown vehicle, possibly a van. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The description of suspect #2 sounds like a high school girl talking about her latest crush.

How in the world are they estimating the age range of the suspects??

Maybe the security guard made a "This is your brain on drugs" joke while being robbed and the suspects didn't get it, but then he made another pop culture reference from 1990 and they laughed.

While I do believe our government to be crooked beyond belief, and am sickened at the way they have trampled on our rights since 911, no I do not actually believe they sent in seal team six to rob that place.

    C'mon man!

    8-year bump.

    2020 Update: https://www.reviewjournal.com/invest...wrong-1954566/

    Cliffs:

    - The old fart running the place croaked in 2014, just a month before a successful million dollar lawsuit against him was completed.

    - Turned out he was lying about all the security at the place, though it seems he was legitimately one of those anti-government privacy freaks.

    - Three former employees are accused of this: Sylviane Della Whitmore, Larry Anthony McDaniel, and Phillip D. Hurbace. Whitmore and McDaniel have been in a relationship for a long time.

    - The place continued running after the 2012 break-in described in this thread, and then was broken into again in 2014. Anyone who kept valuables there after this story was a huge moron, unless they were unaware it had happened.

    - Oddly McDaniel and Whitmore admit to having stolen from boxes there in 2008 and 2009, but deny both the 2012 and 2014 break-ins.

    - After the place was shut down for good in 2014, they had a hard time locating everyone who had valuables there, since there were no names on file.

The same people who own the "private vaults" in Las Vegas also own one in Beverly Hills.

Guess what? They have been robbed by employees in the past too.

Druff should definitely get a box there.

All I need to access your box are your box number, box key and your fucking eyeball.

A great prank would be to rent one of those boxes, be sure to be seen by staff as likely flush with cash when going in there to put something in the box for the first time, but instead of valuables, rig the box with a device to spray bright indelible ink and a real foul odor in the direction of the opening, followed by a flash-bang device detonating. Then wait for the inevitable news report of the hijinks that would ensue when some insider tool breaks into it to steal your “stash”.
