    Scam Help (Need info)

    Scammer alert,

Can anyone find out who this is for me? I received a call from a person (obvious scammer) impersonating a microsoft live employee. He was trying to get information regarding my xbox live account. I believe this number is tied to a land line in Coeburn Va USA, but that is all I can get. Any other information, address, etc. would be helpful. The number is 276 - eight zero seven - 5 two two eight. Any help would be appreciated.

    Go Go.

Did the caller have an accent?

This is a common scam, and it's typically perpetrated by foreigners.

The caller ID you saw was likely spoofed.

No they sounded like an American teenager. I believe they were trying to hack my account somehow, most likely with the intention of using it to order downloadable content or something. Normally I would just blow this off as I was able to sniff out this scam, but what made me take this a little more seriously is that the caller knew my first and last name.

I get calls all the time from "Microsoft" employees claiming that I have a virus.

They lead you through common steps that produce a log that looks suspicious if you weren't very techy.

The end result is they want you to download their software and pay $100 for them to "clean it up" and they obviously introduce new things monthly and have you continually pay.

No snap chat, sorry. I reported the number to xbox live customer service and the rep told me they would "investigate" whatever that is worth.
