yeah, the proper course of action would be to ask the person Chau stole from if he/she wanted to press charges or not. Wouldn't this be a great opportunity for a poker room to set an example and punish the thief? They did nothing wrong, why try to push this incident under the rug?

When I leave a stack of chips at a cash game table, I'm trusting that SOMEONE (the dealer, security, floor staff, or overhead cameras) will notice if somebody decides to help themselves to a few chips, with or without chopsticks and (who)jedi reflexes.

They were trying to protect their own rep, not the thief.
I find it very frustrating that poker security is so poor, because unlike blackjack or other table games, you are not allowed to take your chips off the table in poker unless you're quitting for the session. So if there is a waiting list for your game, it is absolutely impossible to go to the bathroom without leaving your chips unattended, unless you want to give up your spot in the game.
And besides, even if you could take them off the table, it would be a huge pain in the ass, since most players have a large number of chips in front of them (even if they're losing).
I am also a "cheapskate" who keeps track of how many chips I have. That's another reason I like to play out of racks, because it's far easier to count what you have.
One time at Commerce, one of those miserable Asian women went from very friendly to complete bitch when she thought I stole $600 from her. I think this was at a white ($100) chip 200-400 game. She thought I stole 6 chips from her. I knew for certain that I didn't -- not even accidentally. I had all of my chips very well stacked and never ran into a situation where chips were 'between" us and I had to decide if they were mine or not.
I denied it but she got REALLY rude with me and eventually started yelling at me that she knew I stole from her and to give her $600 back. I told her that I didn't take a thing from her, and wasn't giving her a damn thing unless the camera proved me wrong. She made a huge deal, the floorman had the camera checked, and I was cleared. What a bitch. She was losing, so that probably contributed to the whole thing.
Is anybody really surprised by this?

I got caught stealing chips(by mistake) at the Bellagio Poker Room. Same situation. Guy came back from the bathroom and said he was missing $40. He actually would write down how many chips he had when he left the table. They went to the tapes and it was a long 15 mins. for me because they way we were sitting I knew it was going to be me.
They came back and told us I was looking at the board and threw $30 into the pot off his stack. I won the hand. I gave him $40 because I didn't want any trouble. A few hands later we chopped the the blinds and I grabbed the big blind's money. I got a few strange looks after that.
A few days later I went to the office in the back of the poker room to ask for a food voucher. The poker manager wrote it out while looking me over. Then it came to him. "The chip stealer." That became my unofficial nickname around the room.
The guy I took the chips from must have been telling that story all over the room. I met played with a bracelet winner and within a few minutes of conversation he said your the guy who stole X' chips.

This is first hand account from someone who was in the game.
"This is what happened. Chau had 3 racks of $20 but one was missing a stack of 400. He asked if somebody took money from him. Darush joking answered that Shun took the money while Shun was in the bathroom at that time and told Chau to take the money back. Then Chau took 2 stacks or $800. When Shun returned to the table realized he was missing 2 stacks and went crazy. The dealer and few players saw everything. So Chau give $400 back but called the camera to see if the money was right. There was not stealing from Chau since many people was watching. It's incredible how easy it's to ruin the reputation of a person with a wrong Twitter."
Take it for what its worth.The guy that started this thread made a 2p2 account 8 years ago and made 10 post a year regarding mixed games at the Bellagio so it seems likely that he was there. At this point I'm leaning more towards believing the guy claiming he was there than TBrunson. Brunson kinda came off like a ass in the tweets and his gloating of the situation makes me think he might have a beef with Chau.

Not sure I totally believe this as there are some unanswered questions. The real story probably lies somewhere between this & Todd's "gossip". Probably closer to this though.

Was hoping for some Whojedi chopstick grab so this story disappoints.
Seems blown out of proportion but this is why even joking around people shouldn't touch another persons chips because theft can happen even if it's unintentional or other people at the table will always assume the worst creating a scene because they are looking out for other players.
Ah, so it's all just a big misunderstanding....
Another poker success story. Giang loses 20 mil in pits and now plays low stakes grinding out a living in casinos every day and gets wrongly accused of stealing 800 bucks.
I would really like to know the percentage of "poker pros" that actually make. What i mean is ones like Druff that can actually do it and control the stress and money management aspects of it. It has to be like 5 percent.
I would not even put Tom Dwan and Ivey in the 5 percent.

He/she was afraid to be the "bad guy" coming down on some good-natured joking between friends, and assumed that there wouldn't be any actual stealing out in the open like that.
In general, the dealers are too passive when enforcing rules.
Always irritates me when someone barrels all the way, I call them down, and they say, "I've got a pair", hoping that I will show and they will only have to show if they win. So then I have to be the bad guy and say, "You have to show first", and then when they show pocket 3s and I show them my pair of tens, they get really pissed like I was slow-rolling them.
I really wish the dealer would just interfere and tell the guy to show first.
