Warren Buffett 1 Billion dollar Perfect NCAA bracket Challenge

March madness is around the corner, and apparently Warren Buffet is so confident that no one can predict a perfect bracket that he is putting 1 Billion dollars on it. Take your shot PFA, not sure how you "qualify" though.

    "The odds of achieving such a feat? Well, there are 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 -- that's 9 quintillion (with a "Q") -- "

    lol, a 1 in 9 quintillion

Damn, no youtube clip of this... but his quintillion has me thinking of this:

Jeopardy is going to call Billy, it is my destiny that I triumph magnificently on that show and I'll never do that if I have to wear this stupid hoochie-mama looking dress that you bought me which was obviously a poor excuse to cover up the fact that you fucked up again! I'm going to get on that motherfucking show, and I'm going to win, because I'm filled with more useless goddamn information than any human being on this fucking planet! Whose James K. Polk? How many moons are on Pluto? What's a quince? It's a food, Billy, that starts with the letter Q, and I got seven more! I can't believe you lost the goddamn money!

Obv not an American or sports bettor so excuse me if I'm misunderstanding:

Basically, you are picking the successful outcome of each game?

The main problem I see is while there is 9Q combinations (insert 22Q joke), they aren't all equal which would shred down the search tree massively.

What will be interesting to know is how many picks are still live in the final round.

Also, from the article there are prizes for the best "imperfect" picks so that could end up hilarious.
When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself "What would Micon do?", then do the opposite.

PFA Rookie of the Year Awards
    2012: The Templar (unknown)
    2013: Jasep $5000+
    2015: Micon's gofundme legal defense $3k begging for 100k:
    2018: 4Dragons
    2019: Dutch Boyd: Mike Postle
    2020: Covid19
2021: SMIFlorida and some sort of shit coins for $50k
2022: BDubs leaks chums club info
2023: 22nd Feb 4th Dec Youtube channels removed
    2024: Dustin Morgan wins Chrissy's $1000 contest

No offense, but if you think that then you don't understand math.

In fairness Plol, he is quoting the article.
In reality even if every single American were allowed to enter a million different entries , it still wouldn't cover the likely search space.

Not each game but the entire bracket correct.

The same way a HU poker tournament bracket works, like the NBC Heads Up Challenge. A tree of 64(maybe 66) teams you would need to get them all exactly right down to the final 2 including the winner obv.

Surely if you correctly picked the outcome of each game that would also give you the correct bracket?

    Wow, you still don't understand. Here's a hint: Every game isn't 50/50.

Yes, except with this type of challenge all of your picks need to be made before tip-off of the very first game. Much can happen between tip off of game 1 and the final game which iirc is about a month apart, or at least a couple of weeks. Quite a bit into the future as opposed to being able to pick each day a particular game while weighing the current momentum, injuries etc.

What are you talking about PLOL knows I think hes a good guy. This thread was to let everyone know about the contest, especially the college hoops fans.

How exactly was I not reasoning, in telling him to give us his combinatorial lesson?

What do you think the odds are of getting a perfect first round? Is it 2^(number of games)? No, because that assumes you have a 50% chance of correctly picking each game. In reality, you'll probably get all of the 1 vs 16 seeds right. DUCY?

Thank you, I know what you mean and well put.

The bracket busters are usually the 8 vs 9 seeds, 7 vs 10s etc. in round 1. They also make for the most fun, one of my favorite Cinderella stories was the 2006 George Mason team. An 11 seed who went all the way to the final four, surely destroying brackets everywhere.

0 percent chance. A contest for idiots so Buffet can laugh. I wouldn't play if the winner got to be God.
