Just watched Captain Phillips. Not bad but hard to believe it's up for best picture. I give it 3*.
Also watched Flight with Denzel Washington. Pretty predictable & tedious after the crash scene. I give 2.5*.

3 stars.
All Is Lost- Very solid movie. Robert Redford was good as always, but again, not a movie or performance that's worth an Oscar IMO. I think anyone can appreciate the subject matter and the desperation depicted in this film whether or not you are into boating or have ever been on a sail boat. However, I do think it adds a bit more to it if you are familiar with maritime subject matter and the difficulties/survival skills you may face if you end up in a predicament such as what this movie presents. Either way I think most people will enjoy this, even though it can be extremely depressing. The only complaint I would have about it was that it drug on just a little. Either way...
3 1/2 stars.

ill be cross posting this in the super moist thread too, obv
Overrated: wolf of wall street, American hustle, gravity, captain Phillips
Properly rated: Dallas buyers club, 12 years a slave
Underrated: rush, before midnight, about time, fruitvale station, blue jasmine
Good documentaries: blackfish, the Armstrong lie
Best movie of the year: Nebraska
Also thought Her had the potential for something mind-blowing. But it came up just short.
Saving mr banks was entertaining although it deserved all the criticism it received.
Inside Llewyn Davis was the most overrated movie of the year. I love the Cohen brothers but this was a futile mess.
This is the end was the best comedy of the past 10 years.
Don Jon tried and failed -- but still entertaining.
The spectacular now is the type of movie that always gets me. I'm sure Weiss loved it.
Philomena -- how could I have forgotten this gem! Go see it now -- deserved more love from the academy.
Drinking Buddies - available on netflix - you'll either love it or hate it. I loved it. The dialogue was top notch.
Mandela -- meh. The trailer was the best part of the movie. Probably worth a watch if you see it on hbo.

I watched the first 20 minutes, wow, that looks good.
I had just watched "Killing them Softly", and Ryan Gosling's PIC in this movie, Ben Mendelsohn, was one of the criminals there.
So just watched "Animal Kingdom" where he is a criminal yet again,
This is set in Australia, based on a true story of a crime family that killed a couple of cops.
Great.

Alright, should have wrote this earlier. If you haven't had been able to see "The Way Way Back" with Sam Rockwell, Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, Rob Corddry, you should. Written by Jim Rash of The Descendants, and Community fame. Being a Sam Rockwell fan, I went to the theater to see this flick. Was the only one in the theater for the afternoon showing, perfect.
The story is about a broken home, awkward teenager heading to The Hamptons with an overbearing stepfather played by Steve Carrell in a 180 role. Coming of Age film. Also, any flick with Sam Rockwell is a must see in my book. Cmon, even Charlie Angels had its moments, right?
Check it out let me know what you think. Great flick to see with the honey or alone. Squeeze it in, you won't regret it. It is on DVD, also in most countries on Netflix streaming if you have Hola UNblocker installed.
"Dallas Buyers Club" was great. Matthew McConaughey killed it and Jared Leto played a very convincing transsexual.
Here's the article the movie was based on:
