Bar Rescue Las Vegas = Anthony Curtis + Blair Rodman = Scammy?

I own a bar that was considered for this show. The producers from the show took one look at the staff and turned around and walked out the door, so maybe I am a bit biased. They looked at a lot of bars in my area and I am not sure who was chosen, but our place certainly was not.

I can't find the latest episode online so I can't link to it but it should be posted soon. Basically Anthony Curtis from LVA (Lasvegasadvisors.com) is the gaming expert for the show since they are doing some bars in LV:

    http://www.reviewjournal.com/columns...ite-sex-remark

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013...#axzz2YVyLVb2G

During the segment on the payout tables of the VP machines, Blair Rodman walks in (a frequent poster on the old LVA sports forums and I assume a pal of Curtis) under the pretense of a serious VP player and then walks out in pseudo-disgust at the pay table of the machines.

After the re-launch, Rodman comes back and seems to approve of the adjusted pay table.

Something about this rubbed me the wrong way. I know it's TV but it's more like scripted reality TV.

The whole segment with Rodman casts serious aspersions on the opening segment between the bar owner and the recon specialist, Nicole, who is also the host's wife.

The opening segment is so over the top it is almost impossible to believe the doctor didn't believe he was talking to the host's wife and that no element of staging or scripting was involved.

Anyway, I love this show and think the host is a genius but this episode was overflowing with so much bullshit it makes me wonder about the other episodes of the show as well. Seems impossible this opening segment really happened.

That was the one that aired last night. I'm not sure where you can stream it maybe on the Spike website but here are download links:

Great show, definitely staged up for TV but their really are some people completely clueless who own restaurants.

Thanks for the links. What website do you use to find links to the latest episodes of TV Shows?

Blair Rodman's book Kill Phil was pretty good when it was published. Great advice for someone new-ish to NL tourneys. I think he wrote a follow-up but I never read it.

There is not one show on TV that isn't completely staged. You have to be a complete idiot to believe otherwise. If you enjoy reality then shut your TV off and get out of the house.

This is on Spike TV on demand now.
It is Restaurant Impossible for bars.

From reading this, I thought the mixologist was his wife at 1st. He is UGLY. Then, that F'ing bar owner, WTF? that was so F'ing disgusting, I have a hard time thinking someone would say on film. Then again, they had to be on the look out for some plants. Those 2 stuck out like a pair of sore thumbs.

And the Blair Rodman, he is a pro gambler, it probably ate him alive to play that machine prior the adjustment.
    Even if he was reimbursed.
I like their angle, (get them in w/higher payouts, then they order food and drinks)
but they can't compete w/Casinos and w/comps. Most vp players don't drink anyway.

What is a little bar like that's arraignment? They said they keeps 25 % of the take, so they must have some assurance from the backer that if a few monster jack pots hit, they are covered, right?
They didn't seem funded to cover 1 high payout.

Staged or not, the stuff he was saying to the wife was pretty over the top and he delivered the lines like a champ. Anyone that has watched the show would recognize her so it takes quite the imagination to perceive the scene as impromptu. Watching Rodman pretend to gamble in the machines, feign disgust then delight, seemed a little too bullshitty to me.

From the way the bar owners talked, I just assumed they staked the machines and had the pay tables super low to minimize variance. If someone else was staking the machines, why not crank the pay tables up to get max coin in.

I know reality TV is mostly staged, but the elements of truth are still interesting; the make-overs Taffer does on Bar Rescue are interesting and creative, the items brought into Pawn Stars are interesting as is the stuff shipped on Shipping Wars, the cars re-done on Fast -n- Loud, etc.

Las Vegas does seem to be the reality TV capitol of the world; lots of History Channel shows are based there, this Taffer guy lives there, whatever.

I was waiting for that guy to start flirting hard on girls once they did the test launch but if he's anything like he came off on the show he will be trying to bang some female customers again within weeks on this happening.

All Reality TV has some staging it's just some is lighter and some is WAY over the top. This show falls somewhere in the middle and while some of the stuff might be far stretched in spots their are dumb owners out there that are making the same mistakes all over the country somewhere. Businesses can always fail regardless how intelligent the owner is but many do fail because the owner is clueless, not seeing reality, or just too stubborned on their ways which are wrong. .

Like a champ? I didn't get that impression.
If I was Taffer, it would not have even mattered that it was my wife, I'd be like, I'm not helping a scumbag like you, period.
He sure came off like a sincerely nice guy after that, so the TV crew probably did put him up to it.

So if that is the case w/ the backer, then why not???
I'd add machines, give the best "bar pay outs" some shit like that (Even if you offered 100 % EV, they have to play perfect to get close to that. In a bar that just won't happen.) I'd have some promotion though, like a free drink per $ 200 dollars in or something.

On Rodman, I agree it was 100 % "set up" (as opposed to what, though? A friend of Anthony Curtis' just showing up out of the blue w/ the cameras rolling), but they were trying to prove a real point.
Adjust the payouts to something more fair, you get more pros/gamblers, maybe not the same percentage take, but 2 % of 1000 beats 10 % of 100. Plus more drinks served, plus big time winners, big time tips for the bartenders.
