I know a couple of guys that dealt to Farha and they say he is a prick tipwise and how he treats the dealers but never heard anything about him being a cheat or a thief.

I was at a blackjack table in the summer of '07 at the Bellagio. I was playing by myself, and it was just a mid stakes table, maybe $50 or $100 min, $2000 max type table, not high stakes room. Sammy sat down, calls pitboss over, signs marker and gets $1 million brought to him. I was wondering what the fuck he was doing. There were no women to impress, just me sitting there, mid-afternoon. Stalled the game with all the slips needing signed, etc. The staff seemed unaffected, like they'd dealt with him before, and the silly notion of bringing out a million on a table where it would take a month to lose that much was standard for him.
He finally gets all his chips on the felt, waves off the dealer when she went to deal him in. I ask him if he wants to play her heads up. He replies no, just going to watch for awhile. I would have got up and left, but he was being cool to me, and I was kind of interested in him as I knew who he was. He just sat, smoked, and we bs'd a little. Mostly he just sat facing outward, not watching the action, just talking to me about other shit. He eventually plays like 2 hands for maybe $100 a hand, and then calls pitboss back over, and starts the process of getting his marker back. He was done. It seemed like he did the whole thing just to fuck with the staff. He was pleasant to me, but seemed real dickish to all the employees during the whole process and he pretty clearly just wanted to create a bunch of work running around for him, and then make them do it all again. I ran into him again another day when he was already sat, said hello and he was pleasant again, but he seemed generally irritated at however he was doing, so I just took off.
Everyone has encountered that dude who takes himself vs. the casino real personal. That dude that has dreams about breaking the house and shit, but who is a real degen. He didn't shoot shit off that day when he sat with me, but he definitely struck me as that type of guy that was taking the whole thing personal.
$1 million at a table with a $2000 max? That is 500 table max bets--imho anyone else buying in for that may max bets would draw heat quick no matter what the table limits
also, was this a double deck or shoe game? why i ask is it sounds as if Farha may have been backcounting/mid-shoe entry/Wonging or even shuffle tracking

I have no recollection if it was a shoe game, or what was standard at that time. It wasn't an advantage game, like double deck, that I sought out. I learned how to +/- count at one time just to see if i could do it, but this was just a routine I had either before or after playing poker every day for hours. I'd stop and play bj for a half hour or hour. I certainly wasn't counting. I wrote about it on NWP probably within six months of it happening, and I may be omitting some detail, but I don't think so. If that stuff is cached, search Fahra and my sn over there.
The buy-in was absurd. In the past, I don't think I'd ever seen anyone ever buy in for more than 15-20k at that size table. Even then, when the dealer would yell out changing that amount, usually a pit boss would come over and make the person aware of a higher limit room. I recall their demeanor as it being something they went through with him before, because no one act surprised or commented. He wasn't counting, because he only played like 2 hands as I said, and seemed to just want to waste their time. I assume if they tolerated him doing shit like that he wasn't some winner.
My guess is on occasion he may take his money to a high limit room and chunk quite a bit off after hanging out down there, but he didn't on that day. He just gave them their money back minus whatever he played on those few hands. I can't recall if he won or lost, but he played low. If you recall how the Bellagio was set up back then, there was an area where a ton of bj tables were, and then there was a smaller area that had some tables kind of in the center of the gaming floor by a bar. It was the latter where it occurred. I think it may have been $100 min bets, but no higher. I'm just guessing on max, but I doubt it was more than 5k from experience. I can't recall how they brought it to him. I don't remember some giant stack like end stage poker tournies, so he had to have a bunch of chips that weren't even playable unless he broke them down if he had played, but he didn't. It was just kind of funny, because I saw him approach, and then he did something so typically Sammy right off the bat, that it almost kind of made me think it was about showing off and his image, but there was really no one there to show off for. Then I just got the feeling he did it to fuck with them once he paid off his marker that quick, but that's just a guess, but he was just negative in dealing with them, so that was my impression. He really seemed to go through it with no real intention to even play, but maybe I missed some nuance in the whole thing.

Todd Brunson's papa Dolye or whatever his name is is one of the biggest cheaters that ever played poker. Seemingly a good guy to most who don't really know him, his early career was nothing more that traveling with a pack of angle-shooters. He admits in his books if you know how to read his various methods of exploiting people.
BTW his books are really nothing more than trash which was well marketed.

You obviously don't know or have not met Doyle Brunson. If you had, I know you would have a positive opinion about Doyle's upstanding character in everything he does.
He was born in 1933. If you played poker, you travelled around the U.S. to find good games. Unfortunately, this opened Doyle and his friends to armed robbery where people were shot and even killed. Getting killed for being at the wrong poker game at the wrong time is messed up. So. if you were Doyle showing up with massive amounts of cash to a strange house or building, wouldn't you or one of your friends pack heat for purely self defence reasons? Wouldn't you plan for self defence if your life had been endangered by thug robbers on more than one occasion. This was the 1950's through the 1980's. Wouldn't you carry a pistol to protect yourself. If you said no, you're either not that bright or a liar.
Then there is the issue of "Black Friday" and the closing down of internet poker rooms. That included Brunson's site called "Doyle's room". Doyle didn't pull a "Full Tilt Poker" where people didn't ever think they would get their money back after Black Friday. Fulltilt had a $330 million shortfall on their customers deposits. They were paying people within the company large sums of money while the Full Tilt customers would stand to lose their deposited money and any winnings accrued. If Doyle is such a "cheater", why didn't he do a creative profit sharing move that made him enormously rich at his site's players expense? Cake Poker took over "Doyles Room" customers after Black Friday...and blew it immediately. Doyle intervened, taking it away from "Cake Poker" and transferring it all over to the "Yatahay Poker Network". Players were able to access their funds to play with, withdraw or whatever they chose to do. "Doyles Room" was one of the final holdouts who still allowed U.S. citizens to sign up and play on their site. Eventually the Feds blocked their website, shutting them and everybody else down. Doyle felt strongly that they were in the right and was going to take this to higher courts. For the sake of his health, his family and the fact that the Feds will bankrupt you before the case even goes to court, Doyle shut everything down.
If anything, Doyle Brunson stood up to the Federal Government as long as he could. In the end analysis, Doyle Brunson was a very honest guy when it came to how he ran and shut down his online poker room. That speaks volumes about his character.

Simply not true. When Andy Beal took on the corporation, the one player he refused to play heads up was Todd. He beat Andy too often in heads up limit hold'em. Read Michael Craig's excellent book: "The Professor, The Banker & The Suicide King".

i read some about Doyle Brunson and the story of his getting into poker always seemed sketchy...i understand his first job out of college was selling office products and during the first year on the job he found himself playing in poker games his business contacts invited him into...and he was quickly making more money at poker than selling...i don't recall any mention of studying the game or being mentored by experienced players--Brunson leaves the impression he was just a natural; that is something i can't accept--maybe there is more to his story than i've read, but it is easier for me to believe his rapid success was because he was part of a road team rather than as a self made playerSon of lockman's post below:
