    Tethering Questions

Ok so the connection sucks at my second location so I went with the ATT tethering option which I just found out was available through my Iphone via USB for $25 more a month (switching to Verizon when contract runs up as well).

Anyhow the connection seems much better than comcasts (at least at this location) but I want to make sure this is setup properly and I have some questions.

    1. I am connected and it is working and on my Iphone it says Personal Hotspot 1 connection which is obv me but should this name show up in my network sharing center? I have Iphone 3GS so I believe the only way to connect to this is via USB and think it might not show up there but I could be wrong

    2. If I am connected to both networks (comcast and att) at once and one goes down will the other just take its place?

    3. Or do I have to set it up somehow so I am on one network and if it drops then the 2nd will automatically kick in. If this is the case how do I do this? I think I would go with comcast 1 and att 2 so I dont get crushed with data usage

    4. Right now Laptop says I am connected to Network 2 (which is att) and I disconnected from the shitty comcast just to test this. If I put in the password for my comcast setting which network will it be using first or will it be leaching from both at the same time?

Both are listed as home networks

One is listed as office (comcast) and other is listed as Network 2 (att)

    1) The 3GS must be connected through USB. The name that will show up in your Networks list will be either the name of your phone or something like "Network Connection 1". It won't show up as "Personal Hotspot Connection".

    2) Since you're using one through USB and one through wireless, you can be connected to both, and there's one way for one to take over for the other unless you want them both connected at the same time.

    3) Definitely go with Comcast first. Otherwise you will use data so quickly, it will make your head spin.

    4) It actually can be connected to both at the same time, and I believe the wired one (your phone) gets priority, which you don't want for bandwidth reasons.

Bottom line is that this isn't really a good "backup" connection because you don't have unlimited bandwidth, and short of manually disabling the AT&T tether, I don't think there's a way to force the data through Comcast with the AT&T tether just waiting to take over in the background.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, though. Not 100% sure of the above but this was my experience.

Someone can correct me if I'm inaccurate.

I'm also under the impression that the AT&T will not use much data for poker. In fact less than 5gb per year another poker player told me for just poker. I think if I stick to poker and basic forums then I don't think I'll get clobbered and doubt it will go that high. But I could be wrong. I just will have to monitor the usage daily.

Also will not be using this setup full time. Maybe 20 hrs a week or 30 max
