Another Mega Resort Coming To The Strip

This is interesting and could spell even more doom for Caesars Corp, as they are basically the only large organization that does not generate revenue from large conventions on the strip. This will thin things out even more if it comes to fruition, which it looks like it will...

The Genting Group is looking to finish off the Echelon project abandoned by Boyd Gaming in 2008 (where the Stardust used to be, across from the Wynn), and will spend around $4billion to do it.

It's about time they did something with that big hole where the Stardust used to be.

I'm sure they wouldn't have let them implode it if they knew it would sit like that for 7 years or whatever it's been. What an eyesore.

Pretty LOL that Caesars has all these properties but can't get convention traffic. Only real usable convention space is at Rio, and most people aren't interested. Caesars has some conference rooms, but the setup/parking is a mess, so it's not considered desirable.

Caesar's Palace is a really weird shape/layout because they have haphazardly added towers since 1966.

At least it's somewhat off the strip, unlike the Fontainebleau Resort project. That is truly an eyesore with no signs of recovery. It is estimated that it will cost $1.5billion to finish, and no one is stepping up to the plate to make that happen. It's now owned by an investor named Carl Icahn who has no plans whatsoever for the property ATM, at least not publicly, so it's basically been abandoned now for almost 5 years.

At least something is happening with the old Sahara location, but the Fontainebleau Resort project could sit there a lot longer as an empty shell.

It really does just go to show how poorly Caesars is managed. Bad investment after bad investment, no plans whatsoever on how to adapt to the current and future market here in Vegas. Just horrible, yet comical to watch if you have nothing invested in them.

Not sure why it reuters so long to pick the story up...the lvrj ran this a long time ago

It will be nice to get rid of that empty lot and hopefully we can knock the old Sahara down as well....as for the fountainbleu Well I think we're shit out of luck with that disaster. With the money Ichan has I'm surprised he hasnt just done something. I'm more excited with the fact that UNLV is trying to put a plan together to build a football complex on campus. And that they want to move the 51s up to summerlin which would make me snap buy season ticketes

Not sure what you mean here, it's been under construction for a while now and is scheduled to open next year.

LOL... I can't remember exactly who owned that POS, but for some reason Ice T comes to mind. Never stepped foot in there, honestly I can't even remember if it was ever open since I've lived here. Wasn't it supposed to be some shitty nightclub or something? I do remember hearing it was going to be a Walgreens a while back, but who the Hell knows.

Reid uses muscle to expedite visa reviews for Strip investors

    By STEVE TETREAULT
    STEPHENS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON — Sen. Harry Reid is not apologizing for using his muscle to expedite visa reviews for investors in the redevelopment of the SLS Hotel in Las Vegas. In a front page story on Wednesday, the Washington Times reported the Senate majority leader pulled strings — some of them pretty hard — to get the US Citizenship and Immigration Services to speed visa applications of about two dozen Asian investors putting up money for the project.

The issue involves EB-5 visas, which provide a method for foreign nationals who invest in the United States to obtain green cards. According to the Times, the agency that is a branch of the Department of Homeland Security declined to fast-track its review as it had concerns about “suspicious financial activity” involving some of the visa applicants.

The intervention from Reid’s staff was so intense at one point last year that it prompted a shouting match between a Reid aide and an agency official.

“This one is going to be a major headache for us all because Sen. Reid’s office/staff is pushing hard and I just had a long yelling match on the phone,” a USCIS legislative liaison said in a Dec. 5, 2012, email to DHS officials. The Washington Times said it obtained emails from government officials who were concerned the EB-5 program had become too politicized. The emails were displayed in photos but not published in full. When career officials in the USCIS turned down the SLS Hotel’s bid for expedited reviews on Dec. 17, 2012, Reid himself got on the phone with Alejandro Mayorkas, the agency’s director, according to the report.

“While no guarantees were made on the call, Ali did promise the senator the USCIS would take a ‘fresh look’ at the expedited request,” according to an email reported by the paper. Reid’s office on Wednesday did not deny the report. Rather a spokeswoman said Reid “makes no apologies for helping to bring jobs to Nevada.

“Senator Reid has supported and will continue to support the SLS Las Vegas project in any way he can,” spokeswoman Kristen Orthman said in an email. “Sen. Reid believes it is his job to do all he can to promote economic growth and development in the state.”

Good. Getting billions of dollar from China into the US economy is exactly what I want my Senator pulling strings for. I don't care if these guys are drug lords, or just breaking Chinese finance regulations. They're creating jobs here.

I've been here 5 yrs and it was closed when I moved here...my girlfriends been here 10 yrs and it was open then but she can't remember what it was. I will grandly go to echelon since they will have access off of Sahara which makes it more convenient. I hardly go to the strip since red rock is only 2 miles from me in summerlin. I get tired of that place but HATE the strip traffic and congestion. I don't mind shooting down spring mountain and parking at the Mirage since I don't need to use the strip but that's about it. They are working on the big shopping center at red rock (though VERY slowly) and really hope they move the 51s up here. Supposedly I hear they want to build an arena behind the Monte Carlo but that would make about 5 different places I've heard they want to build one to maybe attract and NBA/Nhl team.
