I live on the East Coast (outside DC). Need a part time job for about $1000 per month. I'd prefer to work for myself. Buy/sell items anything(legal) that would accomplish this. I have about 10K I could use for "work" purpose.
any suggestions?

I can see this thread going VERY well.
So what???
from the unedited version of the OP, you've been snowing her for a long time.
for what you are looking for, like a checker at safeway or major grocery store.
Its mindless, in that you don't take the job home,
decent wages.
2 months ago part time X mas work would have been everywhere, I'd imagine.
If it is only 1000 a month, can't you just put more hours in at the poker?
What about an affiliate business where you get a piece of the income you bring in to a company. Many 5-50 person businesses pay a tonne of money for antiquated phone systems when you could provide same/better service via a VOIP provider. Find a good one, sell their systems, build up a monthly income.
How bout this one?

What kind of sales experience do you have?
Are you presentable, or are you some spun out looking wook with dreads and a flat brim?
Do you need to make the money immediately, or could you deal with a long sales cycle?
I worked for a top 3 bank in financial sales for 10 years. I just quit an auto insurance sales job to move. So I do clean up well and have been licensed, bonded and all that crap. I don't need any cash immediately.
I've been thinking about buying/selling a commodity like silver. I'm learning quick that the margins are small.
I also thought about selling cars but my first one hasn't gone well
I'm biased toward setting up websites, buying ads to them and monetize it so it's profitable.
Not for everyone, but lots of people in this business are from India & barely speak/write English well - so it's not as hard as one would think.
Ongoing costs are cheaper than having inventory or some kind of product you need to buy/sell.
Just my .02 good luck - hope you find a job.
Get a job selling Fuller Brush if they're still around. Big money believe it or not.
Did it myself in the early 1970s.
You get in a place where the women all know each other and it's boom town.
They'll fight like crazy trying to out buy each other.
