Attention southerners: Is it worth visiting southern Mississippi?

I will be in New Orleans, and am considering taking a 1-day jaunt east toward Biloxi.

But is it worth the 90-mile-each-way drive?

Some have suggested the NASA Stennis Space Center (which is actually between New Orleans and Biloxi), as well as visiting the Biloxi Light House at night.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated, but keep in mind that Benjamin will be with me, so it has to be young-child-friendly.

Also I would like any suggestions for good restaurants in New Orleans, as I will be there for a few days.

Please don't troll this thread with junk posts. TY

Honestly, this time of year Biloxi isn't that great of a place to go unless you're gambling. Of course since you'll have Benjamin with you it pretty much kills that idea. At the same time, I despise New Orleans for its sheer nastiness so it may be worth a day trip just to get out of that cesspool.

If you like shrimp, shrimp and grits, gumbo, and the gulf of Mexico sure. Although imo the Gulf over their is not quite as pretty as the Florida gulf beach's. Think the Mississippi River draining in there has something to do with it, but the beach's are their too.

Lots of stuff to do in the French Quarter. If Ben is with you, go to Cafe Du Monde and get him a Beignet (sugar coated square looking donut) and then walk east through the French Market. Lots of crap you can buy for kids there that he would like. (south east corner of the Quarter on Decatur)

Audubon Aquarium is near the market as well. (on Canal St about 7 blocks west of DuMonde)

ACME oyster house in the quarter is family friendly. (North of the Aquarium a few blocks up Canal then one block east...take Royal). If you sit close enough to the front door, someone can go onto their website, click ABOUT US, then OYSTER CAM, and people can watch you eating there. Camera is up in the corner above the counter.

I used to drive, pre Katrina, to Biloxi from there and see all the huge houses on the ocean, but dont know what would be there now (rebuilt?).

There isnt a ton of kids type of things along that route. Casinos.

bukowski72: Just a note of caution. Ben is prob. too young to realize what he is seeing but the porno stores and stip clubs down there don't hide themselves.

After my visit to Auburn University a few years back, I have zero desire to ever step foot in a former Confederate state again.

take the Riverboat cruise, it visits the site of the Battle of New Orleans War of 1812 in which Major General Andrew Jackson became a hero and you will also see some beautiful plantation mansions, the bloody mary I had on the boat was the best ever

    We're here.

We flew to New Orleans on the 21st, boarded a western Caribbean cruise on the 22nd, got back to New Orleans on the 29th (yesterday).

Cafe Du Mond is super jammed and we'll never get in unless we wait 2 hours. New Orleans is super crowded because of New Year's and the Sugar Bowl.

Yesterday we walked around the French Quarter. Today we drove to Slidell for a 2-hour swamp tour, and then drove to Biloxi. I drove the "scenic route" and avoided highway 10.

The beaches here are really weird. They're all identical. White sand, SUPER CALM water (looks like a lake), and just stretches on for untold miles. Too cold to swim right now, though. The towns of Pass Christan, Gulfport, and Biloxi (all in Mississippi) all pretty much look identical.

Obviously staying at Caesar's properties so I don't pay anything.
