stanley kubrick. mad genius or faggot?

much has been made of his movies and alternative meanings behind them. what i want to know is how much of this stuff is believable, and how much is pseudo intellectual nonsense.

listening to some people break down the movie the shining is pretty interesting. is the shining an allegory of the blood america has on it's hands as told through product placement and other innuendo?

i heard kubrick had an IQ close to 200 and could pull off something like this if he wanted to. wat da dillyo

It's just a movie not a reveal that he helped fake the moon landing.

Very few today can equal Stanley Kubrick in what he accomplished in the film industry. Movie after great movie. And a career that spannd decades.

The fact that this question can be seriously asked and debated is evidence enough of his artistic genius.

Watched Dr Strangelove 4 times this year already, I think. 2001 is maybe the most beautifully done movie I can think if visually, Full Metal Jacket is crazy powerful and memorable, Clockwork Orange is f'n nuts, the Shining seems to get better every time you hear a new crazy story about it (because you go check out the theory, and all of a sudden, it's Holy shit they may be right!!).

I'm not a huge movie guy, music was always more my thing, but Stanley Kubrick's movies seem to be everything everyone says they are, and more.

the nuttiness of theories about the shining are lol.

i'm surprised that nobody looked at this scene and tried to tie carl yastremski into the picture somehow.

it wouldn't be much of a reach to say that yaz, who came from polish immigrants maybe were involved in the holocaust.

that's the extent that people go to try and decipher this movie.

in this scene shelly duvall represents yaz in his struggle to overcome family crisis and hit for the triple crown

Kubric is amazing and I would say that Shinning isn't even near his best work.

Been meaning to watch color me Kubric but have yet to find the documentary.

Ya I think I got it confused. Was googling afterwards... think there is another one out there. I may be confusing it with life in pictures but thought there was another doc out there.

One great clip deserves another. The fear of the Doomsday Gap is mind-blowingly awesome.

Kubrick has made a classic film in most of the biggest genres of film. it's hard to beat that. You could argue that the Coen brothers have as well, but that would be the only modern director(s) that would come close.

I don't believe much in the secret theories of The Shining. Sometimes, a great movie is just a great movie.

The strength of the Coen brothers is that they have been putting out great movies (20 in total) every few years for going on 30 years now. Kubrick worked on a much slower schedule. That time was obviously worth it but it is something to consider.

My brother was a communications major at U of D and was in a film class where they had to film a live scene as part of their final exam. He chose the "Mein Führer! I can walk!" scene from beginning to end, and asked me to play the part of Dr Strangelove... I learned the entire scene, which of course included the out of control right arm. The whole scene was done in front of his class as well. I remember the girls in there looking at me like I was some sort of fruit loop, but in the end it came off really well and he got an A.

His teacher didn't know I was his brother and asked if I was actually German.

Learned the other day that the Full Metal Jacket soundtrack was actually composed by his daughter. It's some freaky f'd up music to come out of a girl, but one of my favorite soundtracks.. so.. marriage material imo.
