Big news of big stars to appear in movie about online poker and gambling.
Studio heavy weights see legalized poker in the U.S. really soon obv.
Could contribute to another poker boom.

It reads a lot like an April Fools day joke 2 weeks late.
One of the bigger appeals of Rounders was the "underground cardroom" feel, of the guys going here and there, facing potential beatdowns and winning small but reasonable amounts of money from various characters.
Not really sure how they could translate that onto the big screen, watching people sitting around laptops cursing Lee Jones isnt going to be good.
I have a terrible feeling it'll be an action-thriller where a guy finds out he's been cheated online and goes to Costa Rica to find the guys who cheated him a little like Affleck's earlier film "Paycheck".
The name "Runner Runner" implies an action genre feel to it.
I doubt it'll help online poker in america if it has cheating anywhere in it, and I hope its a lot better than "Lucky me" which was terrrrrrrrrrrrible.
I agree. I have a feeling it's going to suck big time.
The reason "Rounders" was good was because poker wasn't a mainstream activity at the time, so the authors felt no need to glorify it. The gritty "underground" story to the whole thing was enough to make a cool little story.
Now that poker is so popular and part of modern society, nobody is going to write a screenplay about some nobody playing in underground NYC card rooms. They'll assume the public would say "Big fucking deal... I want to see a story about the guy who wins millions at the World Series of Poker, not some character study about a dude eventually taking 30k off a Russian."
Sadly, films and TV shows about poker have made players into caricatures, which is the opposite of Rounders, where we actually got a somewhat realistic (albeit a bit over-dramatized) look at the late '90s underground poker scene.
I am keeping an open mind as to how good this film is going to be.
I found new respect for Ben Affleck after how good "The Town" was with him and Jeremy Renner.
Also J.T. seems to never do anything wrong, so again, it might be good if there's a good script, obv.
The Town was great, and as a SNL fan, I don't mind JT.
But, Druff hit on the head, that the guys that made rounders offset (or worse) how good rounders was w/Tilt.
They weren't behind Lucky you, were they?
(I'm watching season 1 of the "the Killing", Miami sure hasn't aged well)
I had to watch that god awful " In Time" movie with Justin Timberlake. it was shitty. Anyways, there is a poker scene in it where he goes runner runner to beat a set of queens fro like 1000 years of life.

The thing that made Rounders good was the story of brotherhood. The actual poker part of Rounders is still pretty horrible.
With a title like "Runner, Runner" this is obv gonna be about a guy who is cheated by a shady RNG, and seeks out revenge against the fish that "beat" him for a large amount.
WILL BE GOD.
Bump for trailer:
It actually don't look half bad from this but who knows.
Will bump thread to lambaste. Carrion.
Here is a little featurette associated with the movie, which is about the government crackdown on online gambling:
The DVD (released sometime in early-mid 2014) will also contain a 20 minute documentary about cheating in online poker, of which I will be part.
tilt was L@L bad..
i will say that timberlake is a pretty talented dude.
i didn't see this w/ his music because it wasn't my thing, but w/ his acting on the last time he was on SNL. wouldn't surprise me to see him make it big in that arena as well.
Alpha Dog sold me on Timberlake as a talent.
Rounders was good because the writing had excellent character depth and top tier actors representing them.
Thats about the extent to which Im willing to contribute to this conversation beyond pointing out that poker is faggot.
