One loathsome genre of YouTube videos these days involves "pranks".
Pranks by themselves actually have the potential to be funny/entertaining, and great YouTube material, but unfortunately it has degenerated into hideously staged situations with horrendous acting.
Here is one that has gotten a LOT of press in the past week:
This was SUCH an obvious staging on both ends, but it has 22 million views, plus got covered on CNN and other news outlets.
Is it really that easy to go viral these days? This video wasn't particularly original, wasn't funny, and the acting was terrible. How did it get so popular?
22 million views actually makes you a lot of money, via the YouTube ads.
