Several internet gaming interests got together today in Philadelphia to discuss internet gaming. Marco Valerio (former partner of snake-in-the-grass Zac Hart) was there, and tweeted summaries of the action.
Some things discussed:
- Too many states want to "lead" internet gambling, too few want to follow along.
- Disagreement existed on how many players online minimum need to exist for a site to thrive. Figures ranged from 2,000 to 20,000.
- Dover Downs Ed Sutor says that in nine days, Delaware will be the first state in the country to go with full online gaming (meaning not just poker).
- True Poker founder David Gzech says $1.5 million in gross rake needed to sustain an online poker room
- Big money in online poker is in small stakes games, NOT middle and high stakes. $2-$4 NL and up said to account for less than 25% of total revenue.
- Online poker will thrive better if accompanied by a full casino
