Police: Argument over cover charge led to nightclub shooting in Las Vegas; 1 patron dead.

From reading the headline, I'm thinking Druff could've been involved.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...2c7_story.html

LAS VEGAS — An argument over a cover charge led to a nightclub shooting early Monday on the Las Vegas Strip that left one patron dead when he tried to subdue the gunman and two employees wounded, police said.

A man opened fire at 5:45 a.m. wounding a manager and a guard at Drai’s After Hours, a club at Bally’s Hotel-Casino, police Sgt. John Sheahan said. Another guard might have been injured.

Sheahan said the nightclub was open at the time and the shooter was believed to have acted alone. He was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Sheahan said the male patron was shot and killed trying to subdue the gunman as people ran from the club.

“The person is in custody. The weapon is in custody,” Sheahan said. No names have been released.

Authorities said the gunman paid an unspecified cover charge then demanded his money back before the shooting began.

The club is located on the lower level of Bally’s.

Gambling continued in the casino after the shooting. Yellow crime scene tape stretched around several banks of slot machines outside the nightclub. Debris littered the floor.

The Strip was the scene of a dramatic explosion and shooting last winter. Authorities say verbal sparring erupted into a shooting, chase and crash that left three people dead in February. A death penalty trial is set for Dec. 2 against a man who once bragged about his lifestyle as a pimp.

Drai's is an "after hours" club for those that just can't get enough clubbing when all of the other clubs close.

It has been around for awhile.

It used to be at Barbary Coast (later named to Bill's), but was moved to Bally's after Bill's was closed.

Going to totally hijack this thread, because this story reminds me of something.

I had always wondered how hard-line clubs were regarding the cover charge. Like, was it possible to ever set foot in one without paying, regardless of your story?

I found this out in 2001 when Master Scalir dropped his keys in my car when I dropped him off (and didn't realize it), and didn't get a hold of me about the matter until I was 30 miles away. He couldn't get into his front door, but was able to sleep that night by climbing in through the window or something. Anyway, he wanted me to drive back and bring them to him. I was too tired that night to go 60 miles round trip, but I told him I would bring it the next day.

Well, the next day he told me he was going to a nightclub in Santa Monica (I don't remember which one), and to meet him there with the keys. We were supposed to meet outside the club, but then he called me that a big line was forming, and that he couldn't wait for me or otherwise he would be on line for hours. Instead, he told me to meet him IN the club (remember, he had no cell phone) and give him the keys. He promised to foot the $10 cover charge for me to get in. I said okay.

With there now being no rush to get down there, I waited a few hours. I arrived there about 11:30pm.

Rather than force Master Scalir to pay me $10 just to get in there, leave him the keys, and go home, I went up to the bouncer and said this:

"Hey, my friend is in there, and he dropped his keys in my car (I showed the keys). Can I just quickly run in and give these to him?"

The bouncer sat there for a second, wondering if I was rolling him. He surprisingly said, "Okay, go ahead."

I went in for free, and told Ken he didn't owe the $10.

I was about to leave, when Ken pointed out a woman that one of his friends dated a few months back. I didn't like this particular friend of his, and was curious who would have dated the guy. I went up to the woman and struck up a conversation, pretending not to know her ex. We actually ended up talking awhile, and got along a lot better than I expected. I was 29 at the time, she was 36. I am normally not into older women, but just went with it. As the next hour or so wore on, I started getting concerned that the bouncer would still see me in there and get really pissed that I didn't pay, but I also didn't want to interrupt the momentum of what was happening. By the time I could have ducked out to pay the $10, I felt it had already been too long and they were going to be pissed anyway, even if I volunteered to pay.

We left the club at about 12:30 or so. Ken stayed behind, obviously. We went and hung around the Santa Monica Pier area, messed around there and in my car, and the night seemed to be going pretty well. She was really petite -- like 5'2" and 110 pounds, and was good looking for 36. She was really into me, from what I could tell, at one point remarking that she really liked how I was so much taller than her.

After a few hours, I drove her back to her car, and we went our separate ways. She lived in the valley, very close to Ken. She gave me her number. I saw her a few days later, and we went to dinner near her. Everything was going great, we went back to her place, and things were progressing to where it was clear we were going to be having sex. She was completely naked, and I hadn't taken off my pants yet, but I was about to. All of a sudden she started crying. And when I say crying, I mean CRYING. Like uncontrollably, with tears streaming down her face. This was no act, unless she was an Oscar-winning actress. I kept asking what was wrong, and all she could get out between her bawling was, "It's not about you, it's not about you..."

I tried to stay patient through this for about 15 minutes, though honestly I couldn't see us restoring the mood of evening after this. The crying finally stopped, but she suddenly got really cold and distant.

I decided I wanted no further part of this, and got the fuck out of Dodge.

Never called her again. Ken later told me that his friend dumped her because she was "totally crazy", though that probably wouldn't have deterred me had I known earlier, as his friend was a piece of shit himself, so his word wasn't reliable.

Back when I moved here and it was in the Barbary Coast, Drais was a pretty cool after hours night club. Now it is extremely ghetto.

    Shame.

Drais used to be a really popular place for people to go to while on X... So popular and well known for that they had a billboard all over town of a bartender pouring a bottle of Evian, with a wall full of Evian bottles behind him, into a martini glass.

Ive had this happen before. Had a cab driver take us to a strip joint back in 2003ish and there was a sign at the door that said no alcohol. Problem was there were 2 huge bouncers standing in front of it so we couldn't see it.

We walk in and find out there is no alcohol at this place. We walk back out and I think at this point the cab guy was collecting his cut and we asked for a refund because of the no alchol thing and the bouncer steps aside and points to the sign behind him that says it is there clear as day. We ate the loss after a little arguing but we didn't shoot anyone

The daring flying tackle guy was the only person to get killed. Really stupid idea to try to tackle someone from behind with a hand gun. Heroic, but fucking stupid.

How do you not return to the bouncer who accepted your word and give him an apology and a tip? If cover was $10, I'd say $20 tip.

    You rolled him.

You walk out with some woman he understands. Appreciates the tip.

Girl sees you got some class.

    Just sayin'

Maybe watch the video, and if you have already maybe watch it again to see why the video you posted does not apply here. I could at least understand a strip type tackle attempt, but that's not how he went about it. He tried a wrap up type of tackle, which basically just led to a wrestling match. You obv never want to get into a wrestling match with someone with their finger on the trigger of a handgun.

He's a hero for taking him down and stopping this guy from shooting anyone else, it took a lot of balls to do what that guy did, but it was still very stupid, and it cost him his life.

I don't think he could have gone for that even if he tried. Looked to me like the gunman had both hands on the gun and directly out in front of him. Would have been really hard to go for the strip.

You know, it wasn't like this guy had someone hostage, or was on a shooting spree. I could understand being the hero there. Granted, the gunman was nuts so you don't know what his next move would have been, but it looked as if he was going for the exit and wielding the gun in the "get the fuck out of my way" type of way. Had this guy just let security and the police do their job there was a good chance the only person that would have died would have been the gunman and no one else. Shame for that dude that we'll never know.

if he had a lethal swipe he could have broken the guys arm. Thats why I run through the house daily practicing my strip sacks.

But ya never know this guy had the pistol drawn and could have snapped at anyone.
