A shutdown of the U.S. government would reduce fourth-quarter economic growth by as much as 1.4 percentage points depending on its length, economists say, as government workers from park rangers to telephone receptionists are furloughed.
Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics Inc. estimates a three-to-four week shutdown would cut growth by 1.4 points. Zandi projects a 2.5 percent annualized pace of fourth-quarter growth without a shutdown. A two-week shutdown starting Oct. 1 could cut growth by 0.3 percentage point to a 2.3 percent rate, according to St. Louis-based Macroeconomic Advisers LLC.
The economy is improving and the GOP hates it because people might give Obama credit. So they're going to hold the economy hostage.
No sir. The answer is one of these three. Feel free to guess.
A) It's Bush's fault.
B) The Republicans are racist.
C) Obama was born in Kenya.
D) The GOP really does not like the Affordable Care Act and since they cannot repeal it at this time their only move is to defund it.
You cannot possibly believe this to be true.

Bullshit posturing as always. This is the 17th govt shutdown since 1976, and there is no way in hell it lasts longer than the last one in 1995 which went 21 days and had ZERO direct economic impact. Political impact? Of course but that's what it's all about anyway.

At least they had enough money left over for signs and zip ties. Obv due to the fact that Halliburton owns the sign and zip tie industries.
In an extended shutdown, most of the federal workforce would go without pay, but the checks will keep coming to the 533 current members of Congress.
The 27th Amendment to the Constitution restricts any Congress from changing its own pay. The measure was proposed in the first days of the Republic but was not ratified until 1992, after a grass-roots movement promoted the idea and the necessary number of state legislatures approved it.
