Debt collection for previous tenant

Been receiving a few letters regarding a debt that is intended for the guy who lived here before me (a black man sounding name, I am not black). Most recently I got one today mentioning it was a "final notice" and if full payment is not made immediately goods will be removed for sale with "after 7pm today" ticked below. Now from what I've found out this is complete scare tactics and they're not allowed to enter the property without a court summons if I'm not mistaken. If they come around later do I need to prove who I am/what's the best way to get rid of them for good?

If they come to your door tell them you're not this person & he no longer lives there & when they ask to see your ID, something I wouldn't do, ask to see their's. Politely direct them to the landlord(have the info readily available) or whoever to perhaps direct them to this person & confirm what you're saying & let them know that you expect this matter to be closed & if they continue to harass you just because they can't locate this guy then you'll take it to the next level.

Did you open the guy's letters? First mistake. In most places (and certainly the UK) thats an offence.

Send the letters back not known at this address.

the last 2 were hand delivered with no return address and if it says "urgent - for immediate attention. notice of attendance" i'm gonna give it a read. no-one knows i've opened them anyhow even if it were an offence.

I am assuming that this is some sort of rent to own or maybe a company that financed appliances or furniture for the former tenant. The easiest way to handle it if they show up is to tell them that you are not the man in question then give them your landlord's phone number for them to contact and tell them that in accordance with FDCPA rules you want them to leave your property and tell them that if they come back you will call the police and have them arrested for trespassing. Once you tell them to leave your property and not come back every time they come back can be prosecuted as a separate act of trespassing.

I know you're not in the US, so I don't know the laws where you live.

But I have to imagine that you can tell them to GTFO if they show up.

Say, "This person doesn't live here, and I don't know him", and tell them to fuck off if they don't like that answer.

You also might want to contact them and explain what's going on.

You should call the police if they keep harassing you.

I actually had the telephone version of this, where I got repeated harassing calls for some deadbeat who had the number before I did. I finally got someone higher up in the company, told them that I considered the calls telephone harassment, and that I would be calling the police and filing a lawsuit if they continued. They tried to tell me I had to "wait up to a week to get it out of their computer", and I said they already had months to get that done when I told them he didn't live here, and that they had 24 hours or I was going to be calling the police and filing the suit. No more calls came in after that.

given the threads on the 1st page of flying stupidity i would hardly classify this as a poker forum. so some say i shouldn't open (hand-delivered) mail not addressed to me yet you suggest reaching out to them, how does that one work then? would you like me to phone them up, give my full details and explain that i'm available for a good rogering up the arse on thursdays and fridays between 2 & 4 in the afternoon? oh yeah and it's true, my name is not olanrewaju sfo.

a sensible response, it's for a public transport company it seems. i will follow your suggestion once they call when i'm in and see if they stay away after a single gtfo.

Call the creditor up and tell them that you are a family member, and that the black
guy is dead. Apparently, he was involved in the drug trade and was shot and killed
by police. You threw out his property because it was contaminated by drugs.
