    Seems like an interesting idea:
PokerShield is a custom-designed Linux Ubuntu operating system that can be booted directly from CD or USB, or installed on your hard drive. Within the PokerShield system there are two Windows virtual machines (VMs)—the first dedicated to online poker, a second for all other computer activity.
I just wonder if it slows your computer down.

Anything that is a virtual machine typically does slow your computer down.

If your computer hasn't been tampered with and is free of spyware/malware/viruses then I don't see the need for this "Pokershield" and if your computer is infected in some way then a hacker probably has ways of getting around this so called shield which makes it worthless.

this isnt as true as it once was and it always gets less true as time passes. also on its side, the hypervisor is ubuntu so its probably running qemu-kvm, which is very efficient code and considered an enterprise level virtualization solution.

Well it all depends on what it is but your right. Years ago anything that was a virtual machine was usually slow as hell like your running your computer non-stop in safe mode or felt like having too many things going in Windows 3.1 but virtualization has definitely made massive performance enhancements.

What's the licensing deal with releasing a custom VM running windows software? Seems highly unlikely Microsoft would allow something like this to be freely distributed, unless they legally couldn't prevent it, for some reason. My understanding of their policy was that you need a license to run their shit on a real machine OR on a virtual machine, but not both under the same license. That would mean you'd need 2 licenses per copy of pokershield, but that's obv nonviable.

Sounds like this product will be as useful as Microsoft Bob and cleanmypc.com

This is sort of what I'm running already but maybe simpler.

I have a virtual machine that I use only for poker and internet banking. I have Windows 7 installed Windows Virtual PC and created an XP guest. Virtual PC is free on Windows 7 Professional and up (not home). Oracle virtual box also seems to work well and is free.

You do need an additional windows license for each VM (I had a retail copy of Windows XP from years ago), I would assume the same is true for the pokerfuse thing as well.
