The media didn't really report this because it didn't fit their narrative, but my understanding is that Seattle offered him a backup QB job for backup QB money, and Kap wasn't interested at all playing for backup QB money. Colin's win/loss total the last two years in the league was 3-16, his final two years he was the worst starting QB in the league. In 5 years of his career he averaged of 200 passing per game 1 year, and that was barely 210 yards per game. The other 4 years he was under 200 yards passing per game. He had one good year, but the defenses figured him out pretty quickly.

He started kneeling towards the end because his production on the field was awful. He had little ability to complete a downfield pass, he was all about screen passes to running backs.

His career ended because he had two terrible years back to back. NFL QBs that have two shitty years with no long term money get cut all the time. Get over it. He sucked.
