    Official London 2013 Thread

The European Poker Tour has come to its senses and brought back the autumn fixture to London from Deauville. In fact October 2 - October 10 is officially the PokerStars European Poker Tour London Poker Festival. http://www.europeanpokertour.com/tournaments/london/ The first week incorporates the UKIPT London leg with a £1000 and £2000 tourney plus some side-events. Week 2 features the £5,000 Main Event, the High Roller and a £50,000 Super High Roller.

Obviously I realise that most forum users are broke degenerates but for any that are playing, and to celebrate the Festival, this is the official London 2013 thread. Ask me anything about getting around, what to see, cheap jew attractions etc. Just don't ask for cheap places to stay because there aren't any.

Well I guess I'm the only PFAer playing, but the London Festival of Poker started today. The UKIPT (UK & Ireland Poker Tour) is owned by PokerStars and London is its flagship stop. The UKIPT Main Event (£1000+100) started the festival and continues until Sunday. They also have a UKIPT "high-roller" of £2K and other side events. The EPT London starts next week (£5K) and they have a high-roller and side events too.

As I have a job I elected to play Day 1B (Thursday), booked Thursday and Friday as vacation, and bought in via Stars. The venue is about half a mile from the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square but all cash/card transactions must happen there. If you buy in online (or qualify) you could just go straight to the venue (Grand Connaught Rooms). So I go along this evening after work hoping for a painless registration. I'm already irritated by the fact that I need to sign up for two different player cards ... one Hippodrome specific ... one for Stars live events. OK so I join the line for signups and there's only a handful of people in front of me so I'm expecting this to be quick. However despite the fact that they must have been signing up some 200 people earlier for Day 1A it's like they're doing each one for the first time. And here's the real kicker ... one of the two guys manning the desks wasn't even processing signups. He was googling Pokerstars pros for their birthdates to enter into the system for them to get a complimentary Hippodrome gold card. How do I know? Because he was one those retards who like to give a running commentary on what they're doing at all times. He was on Negreanu. None of these pros were physically present btw, just a queue of people waiting. Who the fuck designed this process??? If the data is needed surely Stars could just provide it, and why is he doing this task now when people are waiting? I really wished Druff was there to go ballistic on this piss-poor customer service.

OK so eventually I get my Hippodrome card. Now I have to go upstairs to get my PS Live card. Again little or no queue at 7pm but the Romanian? Polish? girl manning the desk did not have a fucking clue what she was doing. And yet once again they must have been signing up people all day ... since 10 am that morning. I just don't understand. I had to tell her several times that I'd bought in via Stars and she'd fiddle about with a card swiping it several times, and tap keys on her computer ... then start the process all over again. Eventually she asked colleagues for help and they were able to guide her through the process and give me a card plus my seat ticket. She then starts saying how important it is for me to bring photo ID for the tournament. I've just had to show photo-ID to get these two player cards (you need both) and yet they're not even sufficient for later identification? Pokerstars is supposed to be a smart company but they are pretty clueless when it comes to live events. More updates tomorrow when I actually get to play.

    Thumbs up

Sorry guys no freeroll. I busted at Level 9 this evening with 24 BBs when I came over the top of a loose 3-bettor with QQ and he had KK.

Nothing really interesting to report. Saw Liv Boeree and Barry G but the stars seemed thin on the ground. Maybe more will be playing the EPT next week. The play seemed generally competent albeit loose but there were some bad hands. One young player managed to put in 3/4 of his stack only to fold on the turn on a nondescript low board, then got shown the airball. Another guy punted off a decent stack 4-betting allin with A4 but got shown AA.

The EPT dealers range from competent to very good and are light years ahead of the WSOP ones. It all ran pretty smoothly. Only had the floor called twice all day, both times to call the clock, and both times justified. So nice venue, good dealers, good tournament vibe. All I needed was better cards. I'll be playing some more of the side-events.

lol, unintentional, and my apologies to sfld for derailing his well-written trip report. No disrespect intended. On the bright side, at least someone won in the thread

In your defense you could just pick a random thread to post in and there's a 50% chance it'll be a sports-betting related thread.
