Man charged after hitting pit master with hot brisket during KY BBQ festival
DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Officers were called to Danville’s Constitution Square Sunday morning as cooks were preparing their meats for the day’s festival.
Mike Owings, 42, of Cunningham, Kentucky was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment.
Two pit masters were sharing the same cooker when workers got angry over how long someone was "hogging the grill."
“The employee at D-Bo’s picked up a brisket out of the cooker and tossed it toward the Firehouse camp,” said Danville Police Sgt. Jonathan Courtwright.
A worker for Firehouse BBQ was in the line of fire for the piece of meat, estimated to be more than 200 degrees.
“It caused burns to her neck, back and shoulder. She was treated on the scene by Boyle EMS,” Sgt. Courtwright said.
Police were not able to recover the "weapon."
“I’m guessing it was smoking. It was coming off the grill. It was gone, by the time we got there,” Courtwright said.
Police say Mike Owings works for a BBQ company out of South Carolina but he lives near Paducah. He remained in the Boyle County jail Monday afternoon.
Cool video as always from him, but may trigger a mild existential crisis at 18:30
Ridiculously ambitious of you to assume anyone will make it that far into your video.
