Made a trip of it in 2017, camping out in Eastern Oregon where the full effect was felt.

Remember that everyone's shadow started shaking before things were mostly fully blacked out for a few minutes.

I interpreted as a message from our lord that end times are coming soon.

I'm considering flying into DFW for it. The problem is that the airline thing is a shitshow. Super expensive unless I fly back Tuesday.

About a 2 hour drive, I’ll just pick the closest city with projected clear sky.

Flying in to DFW Saturday night and out Tuesday. Doing the eclipse in Fort Worth. Best use of airline miles was those dates even with the expense of hotels rooms.

I found some semi reasonable flights coming in Sunday and out Tuesday.

I hesitated because I didn't want Ben missing 2 days of school, but I might just say fuck it and let him.

I tried to get Sunday-Monday, but the Monday evening flights were outrageously priced. I got annoyed and quit the whole thing after hours of trying, and even looking at other possibilities such as flying in/out of St. Louis, and driving to the totality area.

I have found that some of greater Dallas has some very reasonably priced hotels. I might book something tonight.

BTW, I did the totality in the air in 2017.

My dad found a flight which most people weren't aware would be in the totality. It was a pain in the ass. We had to get up in the butt crack of dawn, fly to Portland, then fly to Kansas City, then fly back to LA.

However, it was really cool to see from the air, and fortunately it was guaranteed no matter what the weather, as we were above the clouds. The only possible fail would be a flight delay, which fortunately didn't happen.

The only delay occurred afterwards, as first the plane couldn't land in stormy KC, we circled a bunch of times, and there was talk that we might be diverted 300 miles away, which of course was going to fuck up our return flight royally. Then a decision was made to land in a heavy storm, which I also wasn't that comfortable hearing, but we lived. Then we had to wait hours until the weather cleared to fly back.

Anyway, still worth is and a nice experience. However, not only was it more difficult to determine flights of the totality this time around, but the ones which existed were specifically marketed as totality flights and were very expensive.

So I decided to take a shot with doing it on the ground this year.

The other issue in Dallas is rental cars are crazy, if even available. I’m taking the train from DFW to Fort Worth and will Uber/Lyft anywhere else I decide to go locally.

Here's a video showing the path of the shadow. It also shows the time the shadow will be passing over whatever location you are at. The shadow will be 123 miles wide and traveling at almost 1600 MPH.

The center of the shadow will pass over Ennis, Texas, about 40 miles to the southeast of Dallas and 60 miles southeast of Fort Worth.

Ennis will get 4 minutes, 20 seconds of shadow, Dallas 3 minutes 50 seconds, Fort Worth 2 minutes 30 seconds.

For the 2017 eclipse I drove down I-15 to Sage Junction, Idaho where the 15 crosses Hwy 33. It's all public land there and no problem just to pull off the road into the desert and set up camp, which is what I did. A lot of overnight campers and RV'ers. The place got really crowded by the time of the eclipse. The rest area at the intersection brought in about 50 port a potties.

It was desert where we were at but off to the west was green farmland. The farmer's daughter took an interest in us, came over and talked to several of us asking where we were from. Her father grew potatoes and corn.

Even the Hutterites showed up. Probably 50 of them. They took over a rock outcropping.

When the shadow started passing we were in clear daylight. Then the shadow moved in. Made it look twilight. When the sun went all the way behind the moon I could look directly at it and see the corona. It was an awesome event.

When the shadow passed everyone bolted for their cars. So did I. I planned on driving south 35 miles to the casino at Fort Hall. So I ran right into the traffic jam only a mile down I-15. Slowed to a crawl. I was stuck in a traffic jam that was 20 miles long and getting longer.

Had only made it about 10 miles in an hour. Meanwhile the northbound lanes were empty. So I said screw this shit, crossed over the median and headed back to Montana.

I ran into plenty of traffic but we weren't jammed up. That is, until we reached road construction in southern Montana and had to merge into one lane. So we were stuck for about an hour getting out of that mess.

News reports said it took 12 hours for the southbound traffic jam to reach Salt Lake City, about 240 miles. I never seen so many cars on 15 before and probably never will again.

So my guess for this next eclipse is millions of people are going to drive into the path of the shadow, then make a break for it when the eclipse passes, creating lots of hours long traffic jams everywhere.

Have to drive over to Hayti Mo. to buy some weed April 8. It's a win win.

Really doubt that rascal clocks anywhere near the MPH to count as 'bolting'

Naptown is the best place in the world to observe. People are buying tickets to watch it at the brickyard. NASA will be there
I will watch it for free with zero protection
