I worked a shit job minimum wage job for one day in 2005 -- my best year in poker.
Why?
I wanted to live a day in the life of Master Scalir.
He worked for a telemarketing firm, and I heard so much about the place and all the characters there, I had to be part of it. I applied, very much dialed down my work and education history (claiming I only graduated high school, and had some low-level tech jobs), and got instantly hired.
What pissed me off was the fact that I was put in the "B" room, which was for the newer hires. You had to prove yourself to work in the "A" room. However, anyone from the "A" room could choose to work in the "B" room for a day if they wanted. I had no idea of the A/B shit, or I wouldn't have done this at all. Master Scalir suggested I work there for a day, and pitched it that I'd be working by him and get to see all his antics. I was very disappointed about the B room, where I was away from him and everyone else he had mentioned.
While there, I asked him to downgrade to the "B" room for one day, and he refused. He claimed it would look bad if he downgraded, as if he couldn't handle the A room, and we weren't supposed to be friends, as he didn't want my quitting after a day to reflect badly on him. (The story was that I just peripherally knew him the past.)
It was kinda interesting being a telemarketer for a day, and experiencing life on the "other end" of the line. I was an "opener" and actually led to a few sales. LOL
I called the next day, claimed I broke my leg, and could no longer get down there. That was that. They mailed me my tiny paycheck.
Unbeknownst to me, Master Scalir also asked a mid-20s girl there what she thought of me. He asked because she had previously told him she was a Republican, and liked somewhat older guys. Apparently Ken told her I was also a Republican (not sure how he was supposed to know this), and asked what she thought of me. She said she was attracted to me and would definitely go out with me if I asked. Ken told me this after I "quit". However, I already had a long term girlfriend at the time (Miri), and he knew that. He said, "Well if you two ever break up, I'll get her number for you." When Miri and I had a several month breakup three years later, I actually remembered this and asked Ken to get her number. By then she had quit, and he had no way to find her. Sad!

Love my current job, all freedom, no rules, no accountability. Best job of my life. Gonna do another 1-2 years while I finish rehabbing this house then gonna sell and put it all in a nice place for my kid and her growing family while I retire in a casita next to it.
