"You run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole; you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole."
Growing up I was a big wrestling fan. Loved the WCCW (?) from Texas and the NWA. I didn't give a darn about AWA or WWF. We went every Wed night for the live shows. Used to watch it every Saturday night on TBS from 6 till 8. I remember when the Road Warriors lost for the first time. It was here in Columbus. They lost the titles to Ron Garvin and Jerry Oates (who happens to be from Columbus). Must have been in 84 or 85.
Some of my favorites were Pistol Pez Whatley, Junkyard Dawg, Tommy Rich, Buzz and Brett Sawyer and The Italian Stallion who my sister used to date.
Later in life I used to work for a company here in Columbus and the manager was Leon Ogle. Leon was a small time wrestler and a referee. He married one of the southeast's biggest promoters Fred Ward's daughter. We had a company softball team and Leon talked Jerry Oates into playing with us. Jerry would hit the ball to the fence and get a single. The mans knees are shot. We would sit around after games and practices drinking beer and he would tell us stories about his wrestling days. Good times.
