What's up with the Mass State Athletic Commission? Chael related

Apparently, Chael Sonnen has a hearing to day for his match versus Shogun next weekend. I know what you're thinking it's TRT related right. Oh hell no, the National Organization of Women and some group called Unions Unite managed to get a hearing to oppose his license due to a past felony conviction and some things that he has said in interviews. I'm not debating the merits of the arguments as much as the fact that 2 organizations that have NOTHING to do with mma or any fight sport were granted a CLOSED DOOR hearing by the Mass commission. Fucking clown shoes up there.

The grievance came from the union group Unite Here, who had filed a complaint with the commission over Sonnen's licensing after he was convicted on federal money laundering charges in 2011. There was a second complaint filed by the National Organization for Women over Sonnen's alleged sexist, homophobic and derogatory language.

The complaints were heard in a special closed-door session with the commission on Thursday, but ultimately, Sonnen was able to obtain permission to fight without any issues.

sonnen is his own worst enemy. zero fucks given.

that said, im curious to see if this becomes a trend, eg "such and such has a domestic violence conviction deny his license".

I can understand it if they decided not to give him a license due to the felony conviction. I could also understand Tito being denied a license if he were convicted of beating Jenna. It is just troublesome to me that groups who have nothing to do with mma can petition and get these hearings over his use of derogatory language.

This really didn't deserve to get the press it did. Anybody can do what these groups did, which is draft your complaint up all nice, submit it to the state AC, do a press release so it looks like you are getting shit done, then get your petition denied. This meeting had to happen with or without the petitions, because Chael didn't have a license yet, and he's not the same type of rubber-stamp candidate after his conviction and suspension for test.

This wasn't a hearing just to hear the grievances of the culinary peeps. Chael didn't have a license yet, that was the point of the hearing. You could have got a group together, made some semi-valid point, and petitioned the commission yourself, just like Unite Here. And you would have been acknowledged, then ignored, just like what happened to Unite Here.

EDIT: Fuck me I'm wrong, the MSAC itself said the meeting was spurned by the complaint.

"MSAC spokesperson Terrel Harris, however, said the meeting was prompted by a complaint about Sonnen from a New York and Washington-based union, Unite Here."

On that front, Dana is out on an Obama level press surge to pressure New York.

Yup - Fuck that state. Moved away two years ago and haven't looked back. I can do without the $600K houses and related property taxes as well.
