Questions Needed for a Poker Based Podcast I am Launching (1 guest confirmed)

So I have been running "The Zone Blitz" on Vegaspokerradio weekly and I have enjoyed it and have received some good feedback. Football and sports talk has always been something I have enjoyed and felt I could talk about very easily because I have dedicated many of my hours of my life either sportsbetting, sweating games, playing fantasy etc. and have never really taken a break from following sports to pretty much the max since about 1987 and since 2004 poker has been the same thing.

I have devoted the majority of my time since 2004 to a lot of things poker based. I have been active in the poker forum community since 2004 and have owned a couple of small forums and started as a rec player blowing small bankrolls for the better part of 4 years . Then I took the leap to play pro in 2009 and have done well for myself since then and haven't looked back really.

Which leads me to a poker podcast. When I launch this podcast there will be no set schedule for weekly shows or bi-weekly shows. I will probably just run this once in a while when I can put a good show together.

I think I can provide some tips and answer some questions that people may have about limit hold em or anything surrounding online poker in general. I am not a baller by any stretch of the imagination but I have managed to support myself fully, pay all of my taxes 100 % and get out of some other debt that I had before I started playing 100% in 2009. I have beaten the highest stakes that have run regularly in limit hold em since 2010.

    Pilot Episode

So for the first show here is what I am looking at. I will give a bio of my journey from 2004 until now.

Over the next 2-4 weeks I will amass and compile some tips and some strategy that I have learned over the years. I am a limit hold em specialist but some stuff may be useful to players that play other games.

Questions for Guests on the first show

I would like you guys to post any questions you would have for the following players or for myself

Confirmed- Eric "Sheets" Haber- Questions about staking, backing and poker in general

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Haber

Unconfirmed- Limit Hold em specialist Quaternion- He said he would come on a show of mine back when I was running Venom Poker and I will get in touch with him. He is one of the few that survived the highest stakes when online poker first came about up until black friday beating the games at the highest levels available online in limit hold em for HU, 6 max and ring while amassing a lot of profit. Once told Barry Greenstein he would like to play Phil Ivey at 500-1k HU and Barry told him phil wouldn't play lower than 1k 2k lol.

Did you read Art of War and interpret it into your game? Lots of solid quotes from what I can remember.

At what point do you find a breaking point between ATS / ML

what sort of calculators are you using, what's the difference between +110 and +1 mathematically speaking

If you know 2 functions can you find the third? Pretend the line is 3.5 and the o/u is 44 can you conclude the ML?

    Explain the prisoners dilemma

    etc etc etc

Explain wong teasers and how they are / arent profitable, I suspect many haven't a clue and also you should go into detail about action points and where to book them **properly**

As far as booking action points, you need to find locals OR you can use thegreek.com. They had them last I checked. You call in and say I want an action point wager. You can can cap them @ anything form 1 to infinity as long as you have the amount in your account to cover each point + vig you could lose

Looking for poker questions in this thread though. Will try and answer the rest today on "The Zone Blitz"

Will be doing the show either at an earlier or later time than usual most likely. Probably do it when I get back from the gym in a couple of hours though.

I have no doubt you can "feel" it. I can certainly imagine it however and now I'm upset.

    China,
This is awesome. A couple of years ago, I played a LHE WSOP event where Quaternion (and a bunch of other high stakes LHE specialists) were at my starting table. It was a sick learning experience, and I'd definitely be interested in listening to him as a guest.

As for other LHE strategy content, here is one question off the top of my head:
I am a recreational LHE live cash game player who would like to think he takes the game seriously. I've been playing 10-20 limit hold'em at the Borgata in AC whenever I get a chance (average 4-5 sessions per month). I'm finding my results are mixed, and I think it is largely based on the types of opponents I am facing. When the room is busy and there are multiple tables going, I find that I can 'blend in' when necessary, grind, and isolate worse players with my big hands, find value and even get some respect when bluffing. HOWEVER, when there is one 10-20 table going, I find myself up against regulars that I consider VERY good. At times, I feel like they are targeting me (as the unknown or someone they perceive as a weaker player) -- raising me more often, trying to isolate me, calling my raises and mixing it up with me postflop. Some of my sessions against these players, particularly when a table gets short-handed, have been pretty devastating losses. Small sample size and all, but I think it's more than just 'variance'.

Besides 'not playing against these tougher opponents' (which isn't always an option for someone who can't always pick and choose when he plays), what are some adjustments I can make to counteract being targeted in this way? How do I pick spots to "play back at" an opponent who is targeting me? Waiting for hands or good draws isn't working.

Druff, or any other competent LHE player -- feel free to answer this as well -- I'd be curious to see China's (or his guest's) comments on my question or on your answer, for that matter.

And China, keep up the good content!

Would be interesting to hear Sheets' thoughts about sauce123's style of staking, specifically the expiring makeup.

    http://www.leggopoker.com/blogs/sauc...ake-11251.html

    2. Structure:
Incentive problems plague most cash game staking arrangements. Most arrangements include non expiring makeup, and vague conditions as to when profits may be distributed. Being in makeup provides perverse incentives for everyone. For the backed player, he would prefer the stake be ended tomorrow because while he is in makeup, his backer is freerolling on his wins until he gets back to even. The backer hates when his horse is in makeup because he can't make any money until the horse gets profitable. Moreover, it's incredibly difficult for the horse to continue to play his A game while deep in makeup. And once the horse is out of makeup, how long till he can get his money?

Instead, I will be offering stakes with expiring makeup. Specifically, for a given game/stake, we will pre arrange a sample size at which the horse's makeup disappears, and he is back at even (i.e. freerolling again). For example, a game/stake might be $400 buy in NLHE 6 max. The time of expiry on the makeup is called the interval, for example, 10k hands. The horse plays 10k hands of his $400 NLHE 6max, at the end of which he keeps a pre-arranged percentage of his profits and takes none of his losses. He then has the option of rebooking an identical expiring makeup stake going forward, or to play on his own money, or to renegotiate any of the conditions of subsequent intervals.

As your backer, I am totally indifferent to the size of your interval. If you can only play 5k hands a month, and you want to book your profits every 5k hands to pay your rent, tell me, and we'll make it happen. Profit distirbutions per interval will be designed to distribute expected profits per interval to player/backer in an agreed upon percentage. As interval size decreases, the backer is entitled to more of the absolute profits since he eats all of the losses on losing intervals. You tell me your interval size, and provide me with the necessary statistical information about your play, and I will price you an interval for every game/stake you are interested in.

What do a top limit Holdem players hand ranges by position look like these days? What kind of hands are you playing vs an ep open? Are you ever calling a raise or is it always a 3 bet?

I'm curious because when I played a lot of lhe I won by playing tight and just having better starting hands than my opponents because that's what the books said to do. Clearly, the game has evolved a ton since then and I have no clue what optimal play looks like now.

What the fuck is limit holdem? Is that the game where they tell you how much your allowed to bet? I've heard of it, but I thought it was a myth like Bigfoot.
