I think this is only a story because of the Russian aspect. Plenty of veteran players in all sports take some form "hometown discount" to play where they want or to chase a ring. Ray Allen just did it last season.

But come on. Kirilenko was primed to get overpaid after a pretty good season in Minnesota. He left a SHITLOAD of money on the table, much more than Ray Allen did, for a team that still isn't going to win the title.
