Did a guy agree to a chop at the Rio Deepstacks, then keep 1st place money & run off?

Interesting story, and there is no consensus as to whether it occurred or not.

Meet Jesse Jett. He's from St. Louis, and is listed as finishing first in the Rio Deepstack on June 16:

Here is the 2+2 thread about it: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29...share-1347219/

Some people in the thread piped up to say that they heard from dealers at the Rio that this really happened.

Someone else claims the tournament director denied it ever occurred.

Another person claims that the Rio "caught" this, and made everything right before the guy could leave.

The story in the thread is as follows:

Anyone know the exact details of the deal this past week that first place player reneged on? I heard it was a six man chop first was about 40k and at cage he requested two security guards escort him to car and he left. My source would not BS but he was in Vegas and can not recall the exact day and event.
First place was actually about $53k, but that's not important here.

I will say that his Twitter is a bit suspicious, and does seem to indicate a missing piece of the story on his part.

Indeed, on June 17 (the day the tournament ended), he did tweet the following:

    Name: jessejett.png
Views: 719
Size: 85.0 KB

In those tweets, which apparently occurred after he won the tournament, he also posted pics of his chip stack.

However, he never tweeted about the tournament at the time he won (or if he did, it was deleted), nor did he tweet how much he won. Somehow his friends just heard that he won, congratulated him, and he posted a few pics of his chip stack from eariler.

He tweeted on the 23rd that he was back home, but again, never mentioned the amount he won, or even that he won a tournament while there.

It's almost as if he really didn't want to talk about it.

People on 2+2 are claiming that the Rio does not get directly involved in chops, and it's up to the players to make it right with each other after-the-fact. I don't know if that's actually true.

    Can anyone add to this?

I asked Jesse to comment via Twitter.

Here is his Twitter, by the way:

He called into radio last night and denied this.

    I believe him.

It's likely that either this story was made up, or it applied to a different tournament.
