Like Day 1, my second day of the Main Event was an exercise primarily in frustration and wheel-spinning, highlighted by a big double-up after dinner.

Today's double-up was courtesy of 2 gentlemen my second table -- one who overplayed top pair, and the other who let me flop my set in the first place.

An over-aggro player (clearly an amateur, 50s white guy) opened with AJ early. I was on the button. The player to my direct right -- a guy over 60 -- flatted with AKo. Had he reraised like he should have, I would have dumped my 22. Fortunately, I was able to just call the initial raise, and the flop of J42 rainbow looked very nice. Original raiser led out for 4k, AK guy folded, I made it 10k, he then made it 35k. I had about 48k or so behind at that point, and I shoved it in. He was obviously pot-committed (thanks to his out-of-position reraise) and called. He was drawing virtually dead (needed runner-runner), turn was a brick, I doubled to 124k.

Played a few hands really well, played a few others not so well. In one case I ran a poorly timed bluff, and in another I ran off two players with fairly good hands in a decent-sized pot when I only had a draw. I also made a good AK-high call against the big stack on the river, who only had KQ-high.

The second table I played at was MUCH better than my original table. The original table was a mixture of pros, some decent amateurs, and a few semidonks. The second table was pretty much amateur hour all the way around. I expect the Day 3 table to be a lot tougher than that last table, but hopefully easier than the fairly tough ones I got in both 2011 and 2012.

At one point early on, I sank as low as 31k, so I quadrupled up from that point.

I finished with that same 124k, after briefly touching over 132.

After that 22, I was extremely card dead for the final 2 hours.

    Here are the raw numbers:

2885 players combined for Day 1A and 1B.
3467 entered Day 1C, which will play its own Day 2C tomorrow.
1880 of the 1A/1B players made it to Day 2A/2B.
Of those 1880, exactly 800 survived.

Average stack from Day 2A/2B is 108,187.

I have 124,100 -- again, slightly above average.

We will all combine for Day 3.

    648 places pay.

27.73% of Day 1A/1B players remain. If this percentage is the same for Day 1C, we will have 1761 players left for Day 3.

I am currently 277th in chips out of 800.

Derived from my current chip stack, if I get completely average cards, play completely average, and get a completely average table draw, I will barely squeak into a min cash. That is, right now I am on "pace" to min cash, but obviously a lot can happen to where I either don't cash or do much better than min cashing.

Last year I came into Day 3 with 113,700. I did not play well, got a tough table, and ran poorly. I didn't cash.

This is actually my best end-of-Day-2 stack in my 9 years playing the WSOP. I made Day 6 in 2010, but I was shortstacked the whole way, and finished Day 2 with less than 60k!

Here is my partial table draw for Day 3. Keep in mind that the rest of the table will be filled by Day 2C survivors.

Partial Day 3 table draws: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...XVxRW83cmxTdmc

    Todd Witteles 124,100 Brasilia / 10 / 1
    Sumanth Reddy 29,600 Brasilia / 10 / 3
    Marc Macdonnell 230,600 Brasilia / 10 / 5
    Steven Flory 57,900 Brasilia / 10 / 7
    Loi Phan 140,100 Brasilia / 10 / 9

I have not heard of any of these people. Anyone have info? Seats 2, 4, 6, and 8 will be filled after tomorrow's play.

My goal for today was to finish with 100k. I managed to exceed it by a little bit, so I am happy, but still wish I had more, as I don't really have enough to survive a really bad hand or bad series of hands.

The bubble will burst in the middle of Day 4.

Day 3 takes place on Thursday, and there will be no more breaks after that.

Can't imagine it would be anyone else but that Loi Phan is pretty good. I recognized the name and an internet search confirmed he has like 800k in cashes.

Sumanth has had two deep runs this year 13th and 10th, and quite a few cashes. Marc Macdonnell has about 100k in cashes. Other dude is a nobody.

Also, I noticed you seem like you get concerned with average stack size a lot. It really means nothing. You're deep enough and have enough big blinds that it's not too significant.

Stack to blinds is obv the most important ratio. That said I think it's not insignificant psychologically to know you are ahead of the field, even if just by a little bit. It helps (me anyway) be able to make lay downs.... something Todd actually talked about as being a big advantage to successful players in big tournaments.

Tilt checked out of the Rio & went elsewhere. Now time to get back the 17k I chunked off (in 20 min) #pfa62

    Up to 72k. 5 more and I've atoned for my pre-dinner sins. #getback17 #pfa62

I'm back, baby! 77200. Would like to see 100 at the end of the night. #pfa62

In response to the above tweets, Druff, consider this line of thinking.

Hand 1 of Day 3 is simply the next hand after the final hand of Day 2. Just like playing cash is just one long session. You might double up the last hand of day 2 or the first hand of day 3, it makes little difference.

The problem I see with trying to make up for a poorly played hand, or setting a specific end of day goal is that you can easily stray from the goal of playing every hand as well as possible. If you're below your "goal", you might be tempted to play more loose or aggressive to try to reach your arbitrary chip stack goal. If you're above your goal you might be tempted to play tighter than usual to ensure that you don't lose chips and dip below your chip stack goal.

You said yourself that the year of your best ME finish you were short stacked the entire time, demonstrating that you don't need to have a big stack to go deep.

I know it's probably easier said than done. We're all rooting for you to make a deep run this year, and I want to make sure you aren't pressuring yourself into playing non-optimally. You can always double up the next hand.

    Good luck.
    Joe Sebok has a Micropenis.

For whatever reason, WSOP was very slow with posting final table draws for Day 3. Here it is. Please help me, I don't have time to look up all of these players. I notice a lot of big stacks, but don't recognize the names.

They also don't have the cities listed for people from Day 2C (fail).

    http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/128...Table_Seat.pdf

    Todd Witteles LAS VEGAS, NV, US 124100 Brasilia / 10 / 1
    William Criego X 141700 Brasilia / 10 / 2
    Sumanth Reddy FRANKLIN PARK, NJ, US 29600 Brasilia / 10 / 3
    Brad Myers X 171400 Brasilia / 10 / 4
    Marc Macdonnell DUBLIN, , IE 230600 Brasilia / 10 / 5
    Jake Schwartz X 208400 Brasilia / 10 / 6
    Steven Flory LOS ALTOS, CA, US 57900 Brasilia / 10 / 7
    Sungsoo Kim X 34500 Brasilia / 10 / 8
    Loi Phan SAN MARINO, CA, US 140100 Brasilia / 10 / 9

Will check this thread during the tournament, so please post whatever info you find.

Here is a list of Day 2C players by chip count. This does NOT include me or any other 2A/2B, even though it's supposed to (again, fail):

Jake Schwartz has 4 cashes so far in this WSOP, including 2nd in the NL shootout event #36.

Brad Myers either is a nobody or maybe is Bradley Myers with a couple cashes in other years and either works for, or was sponsored by Poker Table Ratings.

Funny thing, I was convinced he had spade and was hoping not to see one, but that was the only way I win. #pfa62
