Pretty uneventful day other than 5 spots, four of which were early:

    1) I had AA, charged extra to a French guy on an obvious spade draw (flop was all spades), and he got there on the river. I didn't even call when he fired the river because it was super obvious he had it.

    2) Laid down QQ and only lost 1500 chips. This wasn't that tough of a spot. Blinds 100-200. A guy opened from middle-late to 450. Another guy flatted. I had QQ in the SB, made it like 1600. Original raiser kicked it up to 3600. The guy who flatted now went all-in for his final 9600. I folded my QQ knowing I was fucked. Turned out the original raiser had AA, and the flatter had KK. The AA won, and my QQ would have lost.

    3) I laid down KK preflop. Yes, I really did this. I don't want to describe how or why until after I'm out of the tournament.

    4) Same French guy from #1. He opened in middle pos, I 3-bet with JJ from the SB, he called. Flop AA2 with 2 diamonds. I bet, he called. Turn was Q. I checked, he fired out a 2800 bet into a pot of like 7500. Thought I might have the best hand here (and he was firing either a pair or diamonds), but couldn't justify a call. When I folded, he proudly turned up 44.

    5) Same French guy again, a few hours later. This guy was too aggro for his own good, and I was waiting to trap him. Found the perfect spot. He had like 50k and I had about 26-27k. Opened early with KK to 1000 at the 200-400-50 level. He made it 2450. I kicked it up to 7000. He thought shortly and called. Flop was KQ2 rainbow. I had 19000 and change left. I pretended to nervously count my stack, and then checked, as if I had JJ and now was afraid to commit to this "bad" flop. Sadly, he checked, too. Turn was a blank. This time I decided to fire 10k, thinking he might believe I was firing an amount to steal the pot but still have enough behind to fold. Sure enough, he put me all in, I snap called, he turned over AQ and was drawing dead.

Other than those 5 hands, nothing of note really happened. Made some big hands early but got no action. Was very card dead at the end. The only large or medium-large pot I won was that set of kings hand.

Anyway. I finished slightly above average (I think), so onto Day 2 on Tuesday.

1942 people entered Day 1B (the day I played).

    943 entered Day 1A (yesterday).

That's a total of 2885, and we will combine into Day 2A on Tuesday. The players tomorrow (Day 1C) will have their own Day 2 on Wednesday,.

1296 of the 1942 players survived Day 1B. That means average stack from Day 1B was just under 45,000.

584 of the 943 from Day 1A survived. That means average stack from Day 1A is 48,400.

Overall, 1880 out of 2885 survived Day 1A & 1B -- about 65% of the field. Average stack coming into Day the combined 2A is about 46k.

I have 53,850, so that's slightly above average.

I am ranked 407 out of 1296 of the Day 1B players, but that doesn't mean much.

Here are the Day 1A chip counts, from most to least: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/128...s-by-Chips.pdf

Here are the Day 1B chip counts, from most to least: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/128...s-by-Chips.pdf

Here are the Day 2A seat assignments: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/128...s-by-Table.pdf

Here are the Day 1B survivors by name: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/128...ts-by-Name.pdf

Here are the Day 1A survivors by name: http://www.wsop.com/pdfs/reports/128...ts-by-Name.pdf

    My table:

    Michael Sewell SHELBY, NC, US 27,225 Brasilia / 84 / 1
    Todd Witteles LAS VEGAS, NV, US 53,850 Brasilia / 84 / 2
    Shawn Griffin Germantown, MD, US 16,850 Brasilia / 84 / 3
    Stephen Haworth Inverness, IL, US 28,025 Brasilia / 84 / 4
    Antonie Saout Paris, , FR 29,350 Brasilia / 84 / 5
Christopher Surdyk INDIAN HEAD PK, IL, US 9,175 Brasilia / 84 / 6
    Paul Berende OOSTERHOUT, , NL 53,625 Brasilia / 84 / 7
    Timo Pfutzenreuter DE 97,650 Brasilia / 84 / 8
    Mendel Benoit Nice, , FR 38,500 Brasilia / 84 / 9

I am 2nd biggest stack, but am in a virtual tie with Dutch player Paul Berende.

There is only one desperate short stack here -- in seat 6.

Does anyone recognize any of these players? We have 4 foreign players at the table. including the table chip leader.

Fortunately I have fairly good position on the chip leader, and slightly better than neutral position on the guy with the same stack as me.

I do not recognize any of these names.

Note that Day 1C will likely get over 3,000 players and the total field will probably be over 6,000, but I will not see the 1C players unless I make Day 3.

Also gl to thesidedish, who is playing today.

Had dinner with him tonight. I told him at dinner (when I had 26k) that I would be happy to finish with 50k, so I guess I accomplished that first goal, even though there is a long way to go before cashing in this one (probably mid-late Day 4).

Antoine Saout finished 3rd in the Main Event in 2009 and final tabled the WSOPE main event the same year.
    Joe Sebok has a Micropenis.

Michael Sewell - probable donk assuming this is him: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=88498

    Shawn Griffin - ??? - Unknown player

Stephen Haworth - possible donk, this might be his FB page: https://www.facebook.com/stephen.haw...ocation=stream

    Christopher Surdyk - ??? - Unknown player

Paul Berende - possibly a decent player, might be aggro-donkish: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=142122

Timo Pfutzenreuter - probably solid, aggro: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=156651

    Mendel Benoit - Eurodonk??: http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=147489

I'd say your table draw looks somewhat promising, ripe for trapping against the Euro's.

OK, thanks for that info. Here's what I see on the others:

    Michael Sewell SHELBY, NC, US 27,225 Brasilia / 84 / 1
    A few small cashes.

    Shawn Griffin Germantown, MD, US 16,850 Brasilia / 84 / 3
    Can't find info on him.

    Stephen Haworth Inverness, IL, US 28,025 Brasilia / 84 / 4
    Can't find info on him.

    Antonie Saout Paris, , FR 29,350 Brasilia / 84 / 5
As you said, huge 2009 where he got 3rd in the Main Event.

Christopher Surdyk INDIAN HEAD PK, IL, US 9,175 Brasilia / 84 / 6
    Can't find info on him.

    Paul Berende OOSTERHOUT, , NL 53,625 Brasilia / 84 / 7
$1.6 million in cashes, mostly in Europe. Obviously a tough player.

    Timo Pfutzenreuter DE 97,650 Brasilia / 84 / 8
3rd place in WSOP $5k PLO this year for $194k. Other than that, a few moderate cashes.

    Mendel Benoit Nice, , FR 38,500 Brasilia / 84 / 9
    A few moderate cashes.

LOL good find with Haworth's possible Facebook page. If he is playing free Facebook poker, I'm not very intimidated. I guess it could be a different Stephen Haworth, though.

Glad the two aggro-looking Euros don't have position on me.

Inverness is a town right by me, so this Stephen Haworth guy, if he is young, lives with his parents. Young kid cant afford those houses. Its might be this guy.

Oh there was one other notable hand.

I had 88, got 2 callers preflop -- one on the button, one on the BB.

    Flop Kh8h2h

I bet the flop, button folded, BB called.

Turn Ah. He checked, I checked.

River 5s. He checked, I checked.

I considered betting both streets (the turn to prevent a flush from appearing on the board and chopping the pot, the river for value, if he had a king and couldn't lay it down), but I decided not to in each case. On the turn, I thought there was a much better chance I was behind (he had a 1-card flush), and could even get check-raised if he had the Qh, so I felt checking and waiting for the board to pair was much smarter. On the river, I thought the chances were higher that he would fold with no heart and call with a low heart, so again I felt checking was the right option.

I was right on both streets -- but he didn't have one heart -- he had two!

He turned over 9h5h for the flopped flush, and was obviously waiting for the turn to jam me, but slowed down when the 4th heart hit.
