Seriously, if you are a hotel, where is your pride charging $35 a night.

If my room charge is not in the three figures, wherever I stay, I am never staying.

Southpoint is FAR. It's way south (hence the name), and not part of Las Vegas as you know it.

It's far to the point where it's not even realistic to take a cab to the strip, unless you want to pay a fortune each time.

If you're okay with driving a lot on the 15 to get to and from your room, I suppose the place is ok.

It's also full of old people. That poster of hot young people at the pool is highly misleading.

Also read the fine print. $14 resort fee. You get "free" internet after that, but it does take the room from $35 to $49 per night, lessening how good the deal actually is.

As a point of reference, it's 8 miles south of Bellagio and not near anything else interesting.

If you're cool with driving that (and it does pass quickly on the freeway), then stay there.

How are the taxes on rooms in Vegas or surrounding areas? Are they nuts like NY?

12% tax on hotel rooms, 13% near Fremont Street.

Tax is understandable, but I really really really hate resort fees, which should be illegal. (Crowe gave the tax rates in the previous post.)

This allows hotels to advertise misleading rates.

Under the current system, I could advertise rooms at my hotel for $1 per night and charge a mandatory $200 resort fee, and not be doing anything illegal, provided I put it in the fine print.

I believe all the CET properties are now/will be charging the "resort fee". I didn't pay for my stay, June 9-13, because I booked before it was announced I think.

& yes, Southpoint is a long fucking drive from the strip. If you rent a car like I do it might be okay but it would be terrible for going for a nice dinner & drinks on the strip. Speaking of a nice dinner, has anyone eaten at Envy's Steakhouse in the Renaissance Hotel on Flamingo? I had dinner there on Wednesday & loved it. It's a hidden gem. at least to me, not far from the strip.

Yup. All Caesar's-owned properties charge resort fees, which vary from property to property. At Caesar's, it's a whopping $28 per night.

You should hear the LOL fights at the front desk when people are informed of this. (I get my resort fees comped as a Seven Stars member.)

If you booked before March 1, you are NOT required to pay a resort fee, no matter how far in advance you booked. If they try to charge you one, tell them to waive it because it was booked prior to March 1, and they always will waive it after verifying this.

Also, you only get ONE DEVICE connected to the internet for the resort fee. This means you can't connect both your phone and your laptop, or both your phone and iPad. Really weak. Again, this doesn't affect me being a Seven Stars.

Indeed. Wife and I went to a timeshare pitch next door to the SP. It is a decent haul indeed. Have reservations end of June (28th-1st) at Quad 3 nights for $110 total with 3nd night actually comped. Wasn't a bad deal. Possibly playing the Saturday 3day NLHE WSOP #53 depending on how I feel otherwise just be degenning some slots ala Micon and hoping to play some cash at Venetian (which is short walk from Q).

I don't get the cheapness w/wifi these days.
McDonalds, Starbucks, JoB, all have free wifi, no codes nothing.
But these hotels, if they do have it, like Druff said, it is one devise.
1? at home including my Roku, Xbox, printer, cable, I have like 7-8 things hooked up a day. 1 devise is such BS.

and if it is Cox internet, they give you the one wifi for the advertised fee, or for free.
BUT, if you want the good internet you have to pay an extra $ 2 a day.
Like why have a sub par internet in the first place?

Yes but the virgin model has all you can eat 4g and only charges for degraded 3g if the 4g is not available. AFAIK it's the only plan that has all you can eat on either. Sprint Network.

If you have a Sprint Android phone and are in a 4G area don't waste your money just get a tethering program in the android market and use the bandwidth free off your phone plugging into your laptop usb port.

A: I use it all the time.
B: my phone is only 3G.
