I haven't written any bloggish stuff for a while because I have been rather busy. Probably the busiest I have been in my life in fact due to many many things going on etc.
I posted about my washing machine fail and fridge fail but a couple weeks ago my toilet started leaking water. Called my plumbing buddy over and it was a quick easy fix and cost me like $50. Then 2 days ago I noticed a tiny bit of water around my stairs and at first I thought my dog probably snuck down there and pissed on the floor and I just wiped it up. A couple hours later I go down and there was more! I said to myself damn this shit never ends!
I go to my closet where the central AC unit sits and there is a huge leak coming from it as well as 2 inches of water in spots in the closet. I didn't have a wet dry vac and it was late at night so I grabbed about 8 towels and soaked a lot of it up and made a blocker to slow down some of the water heading to the stairs. I got a tech out here the next day fortunately and it was a simple fix as a pipe was clogged and cost me $95 and then I sucked the rest of the shit up with a wet dry vac and it has been running smooth ever since.
This shit has been a huge burden the past 3 months and not because of the money, the time lost is what sucks when shit like this happens especially when it came to the washer as it took at least 4 trips to the store as well as 4 deliveries for the final appliance place to get it right. I'm not complaining because it is part of the territory when you own. The bright spot is I replaced some stuff but I am guessing the dishwasher will go next
My 3 on 3 hoops season is over and that is a good thing. When I first started playing I felt fine but after 2 weeks and sometimes logging full 40 min shifts my body started breaking down. I didn't really get hurt at all but my body hurt. The things I was doing were not good and are not meant for a guy my size. Even if I stretched before and after games I was sore sometimes for 4 or 5 days especially in my hamstrings.
This is when I decided it really was the time to put full focus on my diet again and pull the weight off so I can play hoops at least somewhat comfortably next spring and I just need to get the weight off in general for health purposes and I have had some success. I think at my peak this year I was @ 371 and I am now @ 339. I decided to simplify things and take a new approach and here is what it is.
I stopped going to the gym but I plan to get back when it gets a little colder out and when I get a little more weight off. For now my exercise consists of brisk walking with my dogs and I log in anywhere from a half mile to a max of 2.5 miles per day but I would guess on average I walk with them a little over 1 mile per day.
I bought a food scale and decided to start weighing everything I eat and I downloaded the calorie counter app. It is simple and easy to use and I enter every calorie that goes into my body with it. More or less it started me @ 2200 cals per day and after the first 10 pounds lost it went down to 2100ish. Basically I wake up and have my coffee with fat free cream. Then I will have a granola bar and a banana or some egg beaters and a couple pieces of wheat toast. If I want a snack during the day I grab a banana or a granola bar. I eat lots of sandwiches with turkey/chicken or ham with veggies and mustard and fat free chips. I pace out about 4-5 meals per day and snacks and using this tool + weighing and tracking everything I have lost an average of 2-3 pounds per week. I have had 2 days where I went way over but as long as I stick with the plan the scale drops about a lb every 3 days. When I get a little closer to 300 I am going to do another juice fast and then hop right back to the calorie counter thing. Once you get moving with weight loss you can see the light at the end of the tunnel and the dieting becomes rather easy.
Poker has been good but the past month my hours have been cut back bigtime due to some of the stuff I have posted and some other stuff I have going on but it should be picking up soon. I am still on pace for my all time best year and the past 12 months is the best 12 month stretch I have ever had at the tables. And as a bonus I get to file a full tilt poker claim on Tuesday! So things are def going good overall and I am looking forward to crushing the rest of this year in every challenge I take on
Good shit man. You got Fall in NE going for you - get out and enjoy that.
Oh yeah - and get your ass in the studio and pound out a zone blitz.
You never have to go far for help, China. WillieMcFML can put you on a meal plan.

Thought I'd add this random piece of ancient history to the thread
Finally after 10 years of playing online and 5 years of playing for a living I got pokertracker! I emailed stars and they sent me all my hands. I was interested to see how much I won/lost before I started to play full time. So they shipped over 46 files and it took about 5 hours to load all of these hands but here it is. I started playing full time around the 300k hand mark
I will give you a breakdown of the entire graph from best of my memory
Looks like I got sorta crushed initially the first 20,000 hands or so with a nice dip. At this point I just started playing LHE and didn't know much about it and was running my own kitchen at a bar room at the time. I kept losing slowly until around the 150,000 hand mark.
You can see a couple of slight upticks in there. One time I turned 8 cents into 3k and lost it all in 20 mins playing 30-60. The funny thing is I would never play when I was sober and I used to party a lot back then so I would always lose it all before the night was over.
Then I started reading some books but gained more info from reading forums and the graph had a semi steady move upwards to about the 270,000 hand mark. At this point I was playing anything from .50-1.00 to 5-10 regularly I think.
Then after being laid off from work I decided in 2009 I was going to go for Supernova to get better rakeback. I started at 50c $1 with $100 that shipdachips loaned me till I could load more on. I ran that up to 500 taking shots @ 1-2 limit. I then staked thesidedish in a small tourney and made 1-2k or something . I had about $3k around this time and I was playing 3-6 and 5-10 6 max and then I had that downswing right around the 303,000 hand mark.
I went to my first wsop in 2009 and I remember me and setofks sitting in my hotel room playing 15-30 wasted and I thought the games were more or less the same as most of the 5-10 games and I went on a little heater. When I got home setofks told me over aim I should maybe tried heads up and told me to look people up on ptr. So I said hmmmm I'll try this.
With 0 heads up experience I started sitting 3-6 and 5-10. I was one of maybe 2 or 3 players sitting at those stakes at the time. I had non stop action and it was very easy to me to know what to do because I had already played 500,000 + hands on stars and other sites so I could read hands pretty good and more or less know what to do. Just about every day I won and I don't think I had a losing week my first year and a half playing heads up.
By 2010 I was up to 10-20 and then before you knew it 15-30 and by the end of 2010 30-60 and by 2011 I was playing some 50-100 and I was beating all of these games now both 6 max and hu and ring. Then Black Friday came and I played mostly merge until the games died there.
First of all congrats. I'm sure many on this forum would love to show similar results.
I'm a noob/fish but love the game. I lost enough at NHLE to switch to limit and I am more comfortable with this game however I'm playing small stakes and breaking even at best.
I also feel my instructional books on the game may be outdated. Any recommendations on
limit instruction media?
And heads-up makes me nervous.

He offers up his history that coincides with this graph.
He was winging it. Thought it was great.
Well 2014 is almost 2 months in the books and I can say this year poker wise has been a semi disaster. Actually it has been like that on and off for 4 months and hopefully a big rebound is coming soon. So need to vent a bit here.
Recently I just cant win anything. 6 max has been especially brutal. Seems like half the times I buyin to a ring game I am losing 50 bets consecutively with virtually no upticks. 75 % of my flopped top pairs/overpairs/ get cracked and I cant hit a draw to save my life. One draw that comes to mind is the qj on k10x flop or q10 on kjx flop. I probably didnt make that draw about 50 times in a row before hitting one tonight.
Last week in I think 100 hands I ran into quads 2 times while I held nice showdown cards. Over the next 400 hands I ran into quads 4 more times. Then I had one day where I said I am only going to play heads up today to try and keep the variance on my side. Now HU can have some brutal swings but if you pick your spots right then the swings usually go WAY more in YOUR favor than the other way. So I am chilling just be being patient waiting and this dude joins and I win about 15 bets from him to start. Then he just goes off and wins 100 straight bets like nothing. Not one point over those 100 bets did I have an 8+ bet stretch.
Right after that guy another dude joins and wipes me out for 65 BB straight. I dont feel any of this has to do with my play or if it does it is very very little. I am just running STONE COLD and they are running white hot. Can't even count how many times I have been 4 flushed on the river vs garbage etc and stuff like that. They peel the air turn a gutter then nail it.
I'm not going to get into a rigged conspiracy but I did get into a dispute with one of the sites I play on and we settled it because they had no recourse to go against my dispute which I will not get into. That day the dispute was resolved and all of a sudden a player shows up and I watched him win EVERY 6 max table for 3-4 weeks and I took a good amount of punishment. I must have seen him win 2000 big bets maybe even more than that and it is much more than I have ever seen anyone win in mostly 6 max play over this time frame. Not just me but other regs on the site started asking him and the site questions and then all of a sudden the player vanishes. I have seen similar situations to this and they always come back and lose or keep winning but 99.9 % of the time they dont stone cold quit. On my PT4 I had him winning something like 12 BB 100 and others had similar #s if not higher. And this guy played very aggressive and won a lot of money in head scratching ways. 3 other people approached me and without me saying anything about this they were convinced this guy was cheating somehow someway.
But thats part of online poker that can always leave you scratching your head in an unregulated poker world. One of my buddies says hey its just variance and he is probably right. He tells me to just look at the past years sample as a whole and when I do it is by far the best 12 month stretch I have ever had and it is not close. But the past 4-5 months have been a real head scratcher.
So now it is time to move on. Tomorrow is a new day and I have been playing EVERY day but havent been playing a ton of hands. So I am not sure what my plan is but more or less it will go something like this. I hear the bovada games are good but I also hear there is some collusion. Either way I have watched the games and they look good and it is worth a shot dropping a few k down and trying to run up a nice amt in 20-40 30-60. Another option is to go world wide again and start spreading money over 10 sites or so and that is probably what I will do if Bovada fails and I keep losing on the 2 sites I am grinding now. Either way I got to stay positive, play my game and plug leaks , exploit donks and win the monies.
Big heater coming this week
Some people "claim" when you first put money on Bovada and wait an hour you will run like GOD for a little while. I know that sounds LOL but I remember the few times I had to put money on I did run really well right afterward for a while even though I'm not a believer in that type of stuff like rigged, God Mode, cashout curse, etc...
If you haven't played on there in a while my advice is to call them and say you haven't played in a while and might be interested if you can get a deposit bonus. They might say no and then don't give up just yet, be polite and say a buddy of yours you know got one a few months back and you are curious why Bovada will offer it to some people and not to others. They shouldn't ask for a name of your friend but if they do tell them that is not important. Bovada will randomly offer some people deposit bonuses and not do that for others so see if you can at least get something out of them. Maybe they will give you 10-20% or might just offer you like 20% of your deposit in a free sports bet which is better then nothing.
Thanks for the Bovada info. I did try this a few weeks back and they told me no bonuses. I will try and work them again.
What sucks is I had RB here but over the years my tag got lost and they told me to fuck off. Now I am stuck with nothing.
Another tip for new customers signing up there is to have someone you know create an affiliate account. Join through them and they will get like 40 % of your rake I think.
What one support representative tells you may not be what the next person does so just don't give in too easily. I know that no one can get rakeback anymore which has been that way for a long time but I'm not sure if people were grandfathered into that still get it today. It sure would be nice compared to the 3% or whatever you get in points that can only be used to redeem mtt tickets.
On the plus side Bovada will have a lot of limit games compared to the other sites you are playing on with some bad sports betting fish but the downfall is the anonymous tables so long term notes won't help in future sessions. Cashouts are normally quick though.
