Radar Detectors - Tell me if this is a stupid idea

So I drove 5 hours today. Of course, have the radar detector on the whole way to avoid chicken shit tickets cops issue to rape the citizens.

At any rate, the radar detector has probably gotten me out of like 10 tickets so it has been well worth the investment. However, the one thing i cant stand about the radar detector is the noise. First off it can actually startle you if you are not expecting it and many times it will beep at a low frequency for long periods of time (false alarms). The second is that you cant really listen to anything loud because then you wont here it.

How about an optional wrist device that pulses based on what the radar detector does. The wrist device has different pulses depending on how close or far away the radar is. This way you can blast music as loud as you want and not worry about the noise. You can feel it.3

Stupid stoner idea or million dollar idea?

A good car stereo guy can usually (or used to be able to; hard to say with the complexity of built in audio systems in high end cars) find a way to make an audio interrupt of the stereo system, an override of whatever is playing so that the device of your choice has priority. There definitely used to be audio override adapters available, but I've been out of the car stereo bidness for almost a decade now. You may need to be a little picky about which brand/model scanner you use, but I have no doubt that there are still companies doing this type of shit. Metra, PAC, I'm drawing a blank on some of the companies that used to make things like CD/stereo adapters for cars, but crutchfield should be able to help with that. No idea about the wrist band, however.

The high end Escorts have built in mics and can be set to figure out the ambient noise going on in your car, and get louder or softer accordingly, as set by you. Or you can just pre-set the volume to always be the softer than the factory pre-sets.

You could probably find a place that specializes in doing custom stuff for deaf people who are used to making sound information into light, pictures, vibrations, shit like that. They may not have done exactly what you are talking about before, but they've probably done similar shot for alarm clocks and junk like that, so they may very well have some easy solutions.

Or maybe a better idea is to make an iphone application that just receives the signal from the detector and then makes the phone vibrate. Get rid of the wrist device altogether.

The wrist device could be the same level of vibration that your phone makes. In fact, thinking about this more the phone in pocket would be better than wrist device. Marketing it through aps.

iphone app that syncs to your radar detector

put it in your pocket or on your lap and it vibrates short bursts that get quicker and closer together as the radar signal gets stronger

How about a vibrating cock ring instead of something on your wrist?

I'd buy that, and I don't even own a radar detector.

Already have patents and licenses on vibrating cock ring/female sex toy being control by wireless device (not kidding btw).

    Exactly.

Ok, Actually going to get on this Monday. Will contribute 1 percent profits to PFA free rolls if it all works out. You dont even need to reinvent the wheel. Just partner with an existing company and few modifications.

Just need to find a manufacturer that will alter their design. I imagine it would require a Bluetooth connection in order to speak with any phone. remember to not limit yourself to just the iphone as sales are starting to slip since every carrier seems to offer it. if the bird dog has an outlet for a head set you can easily get a generic BT adapter that will send the signal to the phone. then it is just a matter of writing the app to take that signal and make the phone vibrate. a good programmer should be able to whip something up fairly quickly. I think the hardest part is getting the connection going either with the manufacturer adding BT or using some sort of audio out device

You coule make the radar detector bluetooth compatible and set it so you would get only the stonger signals over your car speaker system,It would interrupt your music but if it could be set to to make your sound alittle lower when the beeps went off that would be prety sweet

I think this is a good idea, though it might need a bit of modification.

I have driven with a radar detector since 1988, and it has saved me from countless tickets (including two today).

I think a vibrating radar detector would be great, though I think the wrist could be startling to the driver. I think maybe something that sits on your leg or in your pocket and vibrates would be a lot better and less of a safety hazard.

BTW I almost never see any cops using X or K band anymore. Always seems to be KA band.

Also, Nevada Highway Patrol was using laser for awhile (which is very difficult to detect), but thankfully they seem to have stopped and are back to radar.

Both of those problems can be solved by having a mute feature and displaying radar hits as lights. I believe many radar detectors already do that.

I have an even better idea for avoiding tickets: drive the speed limit.

You really think police give speeding tickets for public safety reasons?

The majority of times I have had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of me have been because of fucking cops.

    1. Cop pulls someone over in the worst part of the freeway (a big curve or something) and causes a bottleneck. People see the car on the side of the road with the flashing lights which brings traffic to an instant stop.

    2. A bunch of people see a cop hiding in the bushes at the same time and go from 80 to 50 instantly causing traffic slow and creating a dangerous situation.

There is a big difference between Justin Bieber going 80 in his gated community and me going 80 on the fucking I-5 when no one is around. One is a valid ticket the other is not. It has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with lining the cities pockets with revenue.

Not really. This requires you to have one eye on the detector at all times which really hard to do. In fact, the last time i got a ticket was because i had it on mute mode. Cops pulled me over but sure enough the radar was going crazy. I just didnt see it.

An answer to that is to have a small external LED bar with a sticky backing that plugs into the main unit. You could mount the lights either right above the speedometer or on top of the dash and always in your field of vision.
