OMG my daughter is graduating from junior high today

Don't know where the years went, and it's bittersweet, but here we are and I'm so proud of her. Went to her grad chapel this morning and was so surprised when she won an award for a short film/idea project she did this year. She didn't even know she was winning an award. Seeing her on the stage accepting the award I realized what an amazing young lady she has become, and how important all the parenting has been. All choked up.

Tonight she will walk and get her "diploma" - it's all very emotional even though it's just her transition to high school. I don't remember any graduation ceremonies at this stage when I was a kid - I think they are pushing these ceremonies younger and younger now, maybe in an attempt to raise funds for the schools. But seriously, applying for high schools has become as complex, time consuming and expensive as applying for college was when I was at that age. Weird. She did get into a very good high school - she had to test and write an essay and interview, etc. Crazy.

There are private, catholic, independent and some public high schools that one must take a test to get into. I went to a private catholic all boys high school instead of my town public high school because my parents wanted me to get more faggy.

A lot of bigger school districts have "Magnet" schools that you have to test to get into.

Chicago is the prime example of this as almost every kid takes tests to try and get into a better school than their local neighborhood school.

Generally in these cities the best schools still except some neighborhood kids but they draw in the other smart kids from around the city.

Tony Jr graduates 8th grade next month as well, and his sister will be off to college a year from this September.

This graduation talk for Prek and Jr high is crazy. Just an excuse to make $. We didn't graduate Jr. High. We just finished the year and went to High School. My son will be a junior this year so his real graduation is coming in a couple years. Looks like he will be trying to get into the Naval Academy then off to the Marines. Hopefully he will get to wrestle for Navy.
