I used to love 5 Guys burgers, but the last few I've had (over the last couple years) have been disappointing... I think they overexpanded and quality suffered. IMO at least.
When in NYC, my favorite burger is at The Burger Joint, a "hidden" hole-in-the-wall behind a curtain at Le Parker Meridien Hotel on W.56th St....
Fatburger is good, 5guys fries are always soggy imo, prefer fatburger.
I like Shake Shack a lot.... I like their shakes, all the sauces you can put on their fries, and definitely like the burgers.... But strictly comparing the burger itself, I prefer The Burger Joint.... Not a pretentious burger... it's just a nice, juicy, tasty burger on a great soft bun, nicely toasted.
FUDDRUCKERS THAT ASS. CHEESE FRIES THAT ASS
Tommy's is a surprisingly good fast food burger place. There is one in the Lenwood area of Barstow, right off I-15. Just went there yesterday.
Things that are good about Tommy's:
- Burgers taste good
- Fries are also good
- Tomatoes are thick and always in good condition
- Free chili comes with every burger, and while it has a weird pasty consistency, it tastes great
- Prices are lower than In-n-Out, Five Guys, and other comparable places
There are various Tommy's imitators out there, too. IF YOU DON'T SEE THE SHACK, SEND IT BACK!
Many probably know this already but some of the best burgers you can get are from local bars/restaurants. They usually are better then your typical sit down restaurant like Ruby Tuesday's or Applebee's and certainly better then any fast food burgers.
I know some might be scared to eat at certain places but for every unsanitary restaurant their are fifty that are just fine so go off word of mouth in your area. If several people are complimenting a place it's probably worth checking out.
Burgers are a craft. I don't have a particular favorite but things I look for are size, ability to pick different cheeses, and other quality toppings.
Things I like are:
- Not overcooked but not way undercooked either.
- Toasted bun (too soggy or overly cooked where it's super thin sucks)
- Fresh ripe tomato
- Freshly cooked mushrooms (not some bland tasting junk out of a can)
- Cooked/Caramelized onions. I hate the raw taste that stays with me all day long.
- Ability to pick different cheeses. Pepperjack is my favorite but I like Swiss, Provolone, and sometimes Cheddar. I'm not an American Cheese fan but will eat it if their is nothing else.
- BACON!!! Can't ever go wrong with Bacon!!!
- Sometimes I like a fried egg on a burger as well.
I only eat a burger like twice a month but after seeing some good pictures in this thread I might have to get one in the next day or two.
on a side note currently running at mcdonalds in the uk
This local bar does a pretty decent burger and they are goofy as shit.

FIRST... God made the earth and in a special spot he made some land and called that land Livonia (named after the Greek God of Hamburgers). After the Persians, Romans, Indians, John Wayne, the US Cavalry and the Purple Gang fought over this land, it was obtained by the original owners of Masons - Honest John K and his loyal sidekick Joey.
How come these burgers looks so good in pictures? But when you pick them up at the window and start to eat them they look like someone ran over them with a truck and then pissed on them before you got them?
