Unlike the rest of the world, China-based exchanges are unique in that they do not charge fees on bitcoin trades. Instead they make money via withdrawal charges out of the exchange. Further, these fees reduce as your trading volume increases, so this incentivizes traders to bolster this figure by buying and selling from themselves at zero cost.

I never knew about that last wrinkle. They had a rake back scheme going if you increased the number of hands played.

We knew about the fake trades and exchanges taking positions against their customers but the whole fuzzy nature of the actual trading just grows and grows with every retelling of the story.

Looks like they want it to go up and if you want to throw in with the crooks for now you prolly can't lose... until you do.

The bitcoin mania is no different than the baseball card mania and beanie baby mania that took place a few decades ago. People fear missing out on making money and they will pay any price to get in on the action. When the party eventually ends, historians will be writing articles about how crazy people were to buy some fictional currency. Just like they wrote about how crazy people were to buy tulips at insane prices in the 1600's.

There is something which I've dubbed The Mr Robot Effect, where security researchers wag the industry dogs for attention; eg the malware/RAT that came out that was nothing but a shitty imitation of darkcomet but had tons of references to Mr Robot in it, including that fucking awful movie reference splash screen.

Obviously had zero point zero opsec potential but because it referenced a trending pop culture reference, some CEH faggots got their moment in the spotlight.

I expect, strongly, that this is of at least a similar genetic origin, given the lack of homogeny with regards to where those keys are located and how useless it is to decrypt something thats so obviously going to be backed up in multiple physical locations.
