Crims won't like it for darkweb shenanigans either as it will be easily traceable.

    Good writeup here.
    https://techcrunch.com/2019/06/18/facebook-libra/amp/

Facebook wants to make Libra the evolution of PayPal . It’s hoping Libra will become simpler to set up, more ubiquitous as a payment method, more efficient with fewer fees, more accessible to the unbanked, more flexible thanks to developers and more long-lasting through decentralization.
also visa & mastercard are backing it, so perhaps there will be some sort of entry/exit strat for dollars where they process and rake? while fb mines for more data from consumer habits/ad behavior?

thats some e-corp shit right there.

Can't be mined, and is not capped at a certain amount of coins.
Backed by underlying fiat and securities.

Why do they even need a blockchain? ... THEY DON'T!

This is an attempt to create their own legit currency under the guise of crypto.

MB & Visa involvement is a “keep your enemies close” play

    Amusing quote from TechCrunch article
Facebook knew people wouldn’t trust it to wholly steer the cryptocurrency they use

People won't care if it's cheaper and easy to use.

Also, appears they will cover fraud and unauthorised theft.

They'll offer discounts to use their currency at certain shops both online and bricks and mortar. If it saves consumers money 100% they will use it.

I assumed something like this would have come sooner. BTC was never going to be this and that's why i thought the price was/is inflated. Few years ago i assumed it would be players from the traditional banking sector just to prevent others. The hippie dream of blockchain providing cheaper and more fluent service was the part that had mainstream appeal. There's no security with privacy, so that wasn't ever going to happen. And yeah it was always going to be tied to an existing currency. There's no courtesy finders fee in business, also why i assumed it wasn't going to be any of the existing crypto. There's just no need to compensate early adopters.

I saw a hungry beggar on the corner with a sign that said HODL and a QR code. I looked at him and said, “Bitcoin?”, he nodded.

Guys hit all kinds of bets. GBCP will have a LaFerrari when his corn futures come in. I know a guy who hit a Texas natural gas license lottery big.

That bastion of progressive thought, The Brookings Institute, dropped a pretty good video about payments in China.

I wasn’t looking for it, honest. It was recommended and I watched and listened twice. Lotsa great stuff so I can fully appreciate the FB Libra story later.

Because there are no original thoughts. WeChat Pay running through Tencent (China’s version of Facebook) is a billion strong. Delightful tidbits like the practice of giving friends and family a financial gift through WeChat Pay on New Years Day.

This begins as a China mobile payment story but morphs into the application possibility in the US. Maybe it’s a little academic but you will absorb a ton and be working this in your subconscious for days.

God bless Mulva and the Global Poker thread. Always makes me laugh.

Sonatine was asking what shape box Libra fills. Games. Wife has dropped $100’s on Candy Crush she finally admits. Load up a wallet full of tokens and it won’t last til 8pm.

The only utility Bitcoin ever hard for me was loading offshore books.

I talk some nonsense but I’ve followed Bitcoin hard but still learned a ton from that video. I had no idea the extent in China with their own social media $.

Here’s another gem. The amount of money you can transfer is $50k. You can buy a car in this fashion. However within days you will be flooded with WeChat offers for car related stuff. That is the power.

China require the WeChat funds to be held at a central bank. I ain’t trusting Zuck. I know he’s NEVER had a problem getting hacked. Who or which agency is going to insure your loss if you get hacked? If my debit card get hijacked my bank will cover me presently.

The video discusses the unbanked in the US and the fees they pay to ship money or buy gift cards. The number surprised me.

    Lotta great tidbits.

    Speculation and BULLSHIT by hackers.

    Value of U.S. Dollar?

Speculation and BULLSHIT by U.S. government officials.

    Value of GOLD?
