Those odds come from the insurance company that backs courses who do "Win $x if you hit a hole in one on this hole" promotions. Apparently their analysis shows that an average golfer on an average par 3 will hit a hole in one once every 12,500 attempts. Doing it twice in two holes squares that. Obviously, if you are a scratch golfer you have a much better chance than a shitty golfer.
