Newest Lock Poker scam: Big withdrawals canceled, support unresponsive

Lock Poker has been acting a lot like a broke online poker site lately.

They are taking an inexplicably long time to process all cashouts -- even ones for non-US players that should otherwise be taking no more than a few days.

They are segregating their high and middle limit players from the rest of the network player pool, so as to avoid having to pay the other "skins" on the network when the Lock players lose.

They have put into place a system where good players are not allowed to play bad players, again presumably to stop winning players from rolling up money they will want to withdraw.

They have separated their tournaments from the rest of the network, again to avoid having to pay the other "skins" on the network when the Lock players lose.

But maybe you're still in denial, and think there's a good reason behind all of the above.

Just in case you thought Lock Poker wasn't broke, there's now a new, disturbing scam occurring at Lock Poker:

High limit players' withdrawals are being canceled with flimsy/false reasoning. Lock support/security is completely unresponsive, aside from kicking out form letters. Worst yet, many of these canceled withdrawals are occurring weeks or months after they were submitted and were supposedly "in process".

This all came out when longtime 2+2 user "the juggernaut" posted that his withdrawal of $10,000 was canceled by Lock Poker, and a bogus reason was cited:

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/19...-rake-1324070/

    He got this e-mail:

    Hello thejuggernaut,

Your withdrawal has been rejected due to our strict policy of not allowing the withdrawal of transferred funds. A player is only allowed to transfer funds if they are being sent with the sole intent of the receiver using them to play. The only exceptions ever made are with a true staking account or affiliate earnings. This is reviewed on a case by case basis.

    This decision is final.

The "decision is final" line is my favorite part.

The ridiculous thing here is the fact that juggernaut was NOT one of those guys who simply received a transfer and withdrew the money! He submitted this particular withdrawal request months ago, had not made a transfer since, and had played a LOT of poker on Lock since then. He was also a regular player before that.

Shane, the smarmy and double-talking Lock Poker rep on 2+2, showed up in the thread to basically accuse juggernaut of being a manipulator of Lock money trading. See, Lock cashouts are so horrendous that people on 2+2 are selling their Lock money to others at a rate of about 50 cents on the dollar, something Lock allows. Shane claimed that juggernaut was part of a ring of people who are buying up Lock money at 50 cents per dollar, and then "using affiliate accounts" to withdraw quickly at full value.

But hang on. What are "affiliate accounts", and how can they withdraw quickly?

Well, as already stated, players on Lock are experiencing EXTREMELY LONG withdrawal times -- about 4 months right now on average. However, Lock Poker "affiliates" -- the sites that place Lock banners and sign up new players -- are getting their commissions MUCH quicker. Apparently Lock Poker is giving priority to affiliates withdrawing their money from the site. They are doing this because affiliates are bringing new players to the site (i.e. new deposit money), and they know affiliates will drop Lock like a hot potato if they are forced to wait 4 months to get paid. So basically, Lock's attitude has been, "Affiliates get paid quickly, since they bring us new deposit money, but fuck the players who pay thousands of dollars of rake to us. They can wait, because they aren't as immediately valuable."

So back to juggernaut's situation. Shane accused juggernaut of being part of a supposed scam where affiliates are buying up Lock money on 2+2 on the cheap, and then cashing out that money at full value through the priority affiliate cashout system.

Now, of course none of this would be happening if Lock processed cashouts in a timely fashion, or if they weren't giving affiliates unfair priority to cash out.

But let's put that aside for the moment.

There was no evidence that juggernaut, an active Lock high stakes player, was part of this supposed scam. Shane refused to provide any such evidence. In fact, Shane would not name a single affiliate who was actually guilty of this, but just kept claiming that security "recently discovered this scheme", and was canceling cashouts of players who appeared to be involved.

As the 2+2 thread progressed, several others came out of the woodwork with the identical story. Apparently pretty much anyone with a large withdrawal has had it canceled recently, all with this false reason of being part of this likely nonexistent affiliate cashout ring:

All of these people are longtime 2+2 users and known high limit players on Lock.

Shane then conceded that perhaps the "investigation" into this cashout ring was too overaggressive, and that any innocent parties who were unfairly accused should e-mail Lock Security to investigate.

Everyone above did just that (including juggernaut), but simply got form letters back from security that their withdrawal was canceled due to receiving transfers and not playing enough. None of their points were addressed, and security would not respond to further e-mails about it.

Shane also claims that people need to bet "as much money as received in transfer" in order to cash out, which nobody had ever been told prior to that. However, everyone above easily reached that requirement several times over.

There is currently no resolution to this.

It is clear to me that Lock is canceling these large withdrawals (after making some people wait months, believing their money was coming) because they simply don't have the money to send. This whole "affiliate cashout scam" is nonsense, and I doubt it's actually occurring. Even if it is occurring, it should be very easy to identify the guilty parties without canceling cashouts of legitimate players.

Lock is clearly broke. Do not deposit there. Do not play there.

It has gotten worse. Lock is now refusing player cashout requests if they recieved a transfer at all.

unfucking real. So glad I told all my buddies to get their cash off lock before this shit happened. Last time I played there was last week after not playing for months save a tourney here and there. I had 50 bucks in a long forgotten rackeback payment sitting in my vault and I decided to run it to 1k or bust and I could grab a quick 500 at least. Shit when I had money on Lock it was all play money to me anyways.

Druff at his best ITT. Would be a good idea to post an open letter to Lock pro's summarizing the situation they are in and a good exit strategy for them. Then twitter bomb them asianspa style.

Weisner just don't learn! Even Brian "Stinger" Hastings chimes in on this thread and pretty much rapes her comments which he was also a former FTP Red Pro like Melanie.

It's hard to say how long FTP would have survived without Black Friday but their time was numbered. Full Tilt were still paying up until Black Friday and some afterward before their license got pulled. With Lock Poker the well is dry. They don't have enough new money coming in and have former customers jumping ship to Intertops. Their reputation is shot so badly that even newbies who might google to see where to play poker online have a great chance of running across a lot of negative stuff about Lock that they will stay clear of them.

The Portugal meet up seems like a bullshit feeding session by Jennifer to tell the Lock Pros not to panic and all will work out in a month's time. It don't seem like they told Lock Pros to be silent which is what FTP did and I respect that better then what Lock is doing which is encouraging the pros to report what they are told which many including myself believe to be lies.

Just to clarify one point: This meeting is yearly (which is what I was trying to get across in my first post) it has nothing to do with issues and is planned well in advance as a bonus thing like the wine gift I talked about for Xmas, although I'm sure they used it to explain the current situation from their point of view. A bunch of Lock Pros talked about this with me about a year or so ago, saying how much they look forward to these meetups.

I think you are unintentionally teetering on being a Lock apologist in your overt attempt to keep opinion out of your post. If the company is in such dire financial shape to stop paying their debts to players then they should be cancelling their employee boondoggles regardless of their corporate traditions of pissing money away.

I know I don't post here often so I can forgive you for not following anything I write about Lock or online poker in the US in general. It's pathetic that nobody here wants to pump the brakes even just a little bit, and just spins every little tweet and forum post into the Mayan apocolypse and the smoking gun for Lock's failure. The company is a mess right now, and has done the worst job in the history of online poker of communicating with their player base, but realistically, nobody knows their financials, or why they are hosting a retreat. The problem is if anyone tries to point out an actual fact or correct anything someone posts they are an apologist. If you actually knew what I post elsewhere and write about you'd know that even before Black Friday I advocated NOBODY leave any significant amount of money on ANY US online poker site. For anytihng I've ever said about Lock I always preface it with "buyer beware".

Planned or not let me create a scenario for you.

Say you have a week off in December and you are intending to take a vacation to the Bahamas with your wife and two kids. You plan this trip at the end of last year so almost a year ahead. Four months into the year both your wife and yourself lose your jobs and now financially your hurting. It's not very wise of you to go but you made the plans. It might cost you say 15% of what the trip would cost to get out of it since you put some money down on whatever it might be but paying for the full trip will put your finances in very bad shape.

Do you go on this trip anyways?

Of course Lock Pros look forward to these free trip meet ups where they are treated like royalty for a week or however long they are there. I'm sure the financials come up yet they don't want to push the issue too much with the label that pays them.

Wouldn't the responsible thing for Lock to do is say "We are sorry, but due to our recent circumstances we financially cannot afford the trip to Portugal this year?"

Wouldn't is be courteous of Lock Pros to be aware of the current financials of a company that hasn't paid out and say "You know what we would like to save you money this year on the trip in hopes the company can turn around which could benefit us Pros for years to come?"

I realize not many people are going to pass up a great trip like that but it would of been in the best interest of the company to save that money and if some how they pulled out of this shit they are in now then the Pros could perhaps be compensated at a future date and still be Pros for a site for years down the road.

I'm sure several of these pros know stuff with Lock is not looking good and hasn't for a while yet they continue to peddle the companies shady rhetoric to the community. Some of them are praying things turn around while others are just buying up the hype that they are told because the company has done them no wrong so far.

Deep down someone like Melanie Weisner should know better having gone through past filthy dealings with FTP. It's rumored/semi-confirmed from her that she has a half million or more locked up on that site. Who knows what she is keeping on Lock but if it's more then a few percent of what she had on FTP then she is even more of a gullible idiot then anyone thought.

Dear Lock insider, if policies around transfer cashouts are clear why can't you use them to answer this question?

I transfer $5000 to player B. Player B plays for a few months and runs it down to $3500. Who owns that $3500? Who can cash it out, what is the process of doing it.

My interpretation of the policy wording you posted is that Lock simply steals this money. Do you agree?
