I'm not even saying this is like the sopranos/boardwalk empire or anything like that.

But, if you listen to this guy

talk about how Vikings are a lot like modern day bikers, w/many examples.
Then combine that w/ me thinking it was a 9 part documentary, and not a drama set in ancient times, that is ALL I'm saying.

But, BS if that main guy isn't trying to be Jax. Same mannerisms, same smile.

I don't understand how Vikings reminds you of SOA.

    It doesn't make any sense.

It's too bad that Boardwalk Empire wasn't the show that Terence Winter cut his teeth on.

I think Boardwalk is actually more polished in a lot of ways than Sopranos, but obv Sopranos is far superior

I agree with OP, to the extent that I just never got into Sopranos as much as others did. For Winter's shows, I prefer Boardwalk Empire.

For whatever reason there was a lot of Deadwood/SOA actors,
I'll bet there is at least one more in season 2 of the Vikings.

The ONLY reason I gave this thread any credence is
    # 1 I hadn't seen it in years
    # 2 I thought them 10 years ago, vs present day shows, which the sopranos kicked in all doors for, might be comparable.

I watched the Pilot in honor of Gandofini, and have not stopped.
I'm 3 episodes into the 2nd season, this show is great.

If you don't like it, whatever, (I think you were just shit disturbing), but it was not overrated.
I was rated high, because it was the best thing on TV, (through season 5, anyway) hands down.

Sopranos was a pretty good show back in the late 90s/early 2000s. However the show lost its bearings at the end.

Even David Chase agreed the show lost its validity in the third season.

Validity in what sense? Not sure I get what you/he means there.

Sonatine basically wanted more ponies in the story line.

David Chase had the intention to extract humour from the American gangster genre, and he succeeded.
It never pretended to be bigger than what it was.

It had no desire to morph into science fiction and special effects.

David Chase found a formula that was succesful and entertaining.
And Judging by the size of the international audience and awards, it was a popular show.

So, if you feel the need to rank tv shows and hate on the Sopranos go ahead.
    Have a ball.

Its a reference to the article; David Chase felt the show's principle writers were no longer able to accurately articulate the characters criminality, which he originally intended to be the heart and soul of the show.

And was drowned out by OMG MEADOW IS DATING A BLACK etc etc efuckingct.
