Its a reference to the article; David Chase felt the show's principle writers were no longer able to accurately articulate the characters criminality, which he originally intended to be the heart and soul of the show.

And was drowned out by OMG MEADOW IS DATING A BLACK etc etc efuckingct.
Seasons 1, 2, and 5 were excellent. And 5 was the best of those 3.
"No Long Term Parking" was the best single episode.

I read somewhere it was supposed to be 5 seasons long, and they should have stuck w/that plan, because i think a lot of the backlash comes from staying on the air too long.
No getting around it, season 6a was just shit.

Agree much of it was overrated - what about the season when Tony was in the hospital and kept having all those dreams? Everyone knew he was going to live - he had just renewed his contract in a very public negotiation. Yet we were burdened with hour after hour of self-indulgent episodes of Tony in the hospital, teetering on death. Get the fuck out of here David Chase.

The writing on the show got progressively worse for the most part. They blew their wad the first 2 seasons. Compare it to plot driven TV dramas like the Wire or Breaking Bad and you can see just how much the writing sucked on the Sopranos toward the end.

Even the casting started to suck. We were treated to these phenomenal actors from the same people that cast Law and Order, and the more successful the show got the more famous people were brought in and the more the show incrementally sucked.

I hated the final episode when I first saw it but after multiple viewings, I decided it was genius. Also the use and choice of music was brilliant throughout the entire life of the series.

Never watched this show, but David Chase did a good job writing for "The Rockford Files" in the 1970s.

I agree it's one of the best for sure, but look at all the bullshit it is up against. TV is getting better and better and anyone that can't see the shift in the Sopranos from plot driven episodes to a long, drawn out, over indulgent CHARACTER driven drama isn't really paying attention. Great series, just went on a lil too long imo

The Discovery Channel is becoming the WOAT with all these crappy new series. Deadliest Catch will always be great but almost every other show is some fake drama driven shit. Fucking Devils Ride??

If you grew up devouring the homogenized garbage spoon fed by the American media, then yes I can see why The Sopranos would blow your mind.

maybe , but i grew up watching godfather 1 and 2, taxi driver, good fellows, and so on. I just thought the soprano characters were well fleshed out, interesting plot arcs and of course, brilliantly written by david chase and co

    Listen fool.
Why would I make this up?
Do your homework before you challenge my factual statements regarding Chase.

I respect your writing skills sometimes, but these buttanger and estrogen jokes make no sense.

Well let's see. The Walking Dead, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Shameless, American Horror Story

Serial TV Dramas keep getting better and better.

The Sopranos was great, but the bar for TV Dramas was pretty fucking low.

    The Walking Dead: B-
    Homeland: no data
    Breaking Bad: A-
    Downton Abbey: B+
    GoT: A-
    Boardwalk: B-
    Shameless: no data
    AHS: no data

And really thats remarkable. Seriously youre right, its a really active genre right now with lots of solid high notes.

But people do suck The Sopranos dick like they were suffocating and there was oxygen in David Chase's balls.

I grew up watching the godfather trilogy, mean streets, goodfellas and casino. So when The Sopranos came around it was like watching a modern day version of things I loved from the past. For me the show doesn't compare to any of the movies I listed previously but it isn't that far off either.

But if you for a second compare something like godfather 3 to the sopranos then the sopranos completely wins out.

Although sopranos definitely fizzled out in its later years at a time it was amazing, something godfather 3 could never in its existence say.

David Chase said long before Gandolfini died he was never interested in a movie sequel of the Sopranos. HOWEVER, he was warm to the idea of a Prequel of the Sopranos.

Look to hear soon I suspect of a movie of Tony Soprano rising to power, which I think would be an enormous blockbuster.

That was already covered in the first few seasons.
