Macau Soft Games & Gus Hansen

Hey Druff, call your rich relatives get a 7 figure loan and get your ass to Macau. Set mine Gus and the Asian degens n retire young n wealthy. Give your honest to god or G-d lol assessment of Gus's Hansen's cash game skillz. I think the average micro grinder would kick his ass.

I heard some SICK reports in the past of those Macau games. Like we're talking super high stakes, to where I don't know where everyone is getting the money to play.

Here's a report posted by Gus himself:

Gus Hansen has been involved in some crazy high stakes action in Macau lately. This time he went up against 'durrrr - and it didn't end well!

Danish poker icon Gus Hansen is really at it at the tables in Macau. The action is crazy and sick sums of money are changing hands every hour.

The Great Dane ran into trouble when he went up against Tom 'durrrr' Dwan - and Lady Luck wasn't on his side this time around.

Here is a fresh recap from Gus Hansen who is texting us directly from the high stakes tables at the Starworld Casino in Macau, China:

"Drawing dead against Durrrr again :-( I hope this is not gonna be my new theme song, because then I will be hitting the rails within a very short time".

"6 handed game I raise and Durrrr reraises. I call and flop comes:

    Ad8d5c

not exactly the worst when you are holding:

    3d4d

I check and Durrrr bets HKD$500,000 into HKD$900,000 - I make it HKD1.5 million planning to call if Durrrr moves all in or bet his remaining HKD$3,000,000 on the turn if he just calls".

"He calls and now I am dreaming of a 2, hoping for a diamond and firing anyways if I miss".

    Ac

comes and I hesitate for a second as it looks like just about the worst card in the deck. I could have slowed down but instead I follow my carefully laid out plan and ship it". HKD3,000,000 insta called by Durrrrs set of 8's and I am in limbo again".

"No draw, no hope and I am not exactly winning for the day :-("

    Gus
This was from 2 days ago.

To convert these to US dollars, one HKD is worth 0.1286 US dollars.

They got 900k HKD in preflop, 3 million HKD on the flop, and 6 million HKD on the turn, at which point Gus was all-in.

That's a 9.9 million HKD pot, equal to about $1,275,000.

    Crazy.

From what I've read, and what I understand of the games, the stakes rise when the whales (who aren't really whales) start to lose. Apparently they have free run of the place and if they start losing they simply force everyone to play higher or leave. So I think the super-huge pots occur when some of the poker pros are already up big and forced to play even higher to appease the whales.

It is more than that. The bottom 12 stacks of 10 are HK 100,000 each. The two stacks of bigger plaques are HK 500,000 each.

Di Dang/Urindanger tried to fly to China to pick up some of that soft money and lost 1.2 Million. He said on top of the huge loss it wasn't very fun being stuck in a plane for 20 hours back to the US.
